There has been a clamor in the past few weeks on what to expect at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 7. It is now being strongly rumored that the company may unveil its next wearable flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2. This is another hunch, but a solid one.
The Invite Mail Gives a Hint
The formal invite seen online didn’t have anything to indicate that the event is meant to launch additional devices beyond the Galaxy Note 10 smartphone. However, a lot of people have received an invite by mail which uses the word ‘devices’ in plural and that has set this whole rumor mill rolling on the company planning more than one device to be unveiled on that day.
Some Past Instances Do Show the Trend
Analysts convinced that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 is part of the August 7 event have been able to dig out some of past release events for smartphones by the South Korean company, which had the smartwatch included in it. These include the Samsung Gear Sport and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the year 2017 and the first Galaxy Watch last year along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (August 2018). Even the launch event of the Samsung Galaxy S10 included the unveiling of Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit E.
Of course, nothing rules out the announcement of a tablet or any other device at the Unlocked event.
What We Know About the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2
Samsung is likely to bring in a few improvements in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2, particularly adding health-related features. There are expected to be two dial sizes, 44 mm and 40 mm. The significant addition will be the ECG app to this new watch. This will enable the watch to capture the heart’s rhythm and share with a physician ensuring timely treatment.
The other one is the atrial fibrillation or Afib notifications feature which again is an important function to have on your smartwatch. It is able to detect any abnormal heartbeat and issue a warning so that strokes can be averted. Apple has these features on its Apple Watch and Samsung will follow the leader in providing these features on the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 2.
The company has to however obtain clearances from the FDA before activating these features on the watches.
The question again is will this watch be part of the launch event on August 7?
