Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) Gets its Software Update from Verizon

Galaxy Tab A (8.0)

Service provider Verizon has just released the latest software update version M1AJQ.T387VVRU1ARJ2 for the users of Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8.0).  Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is also known by the moniker Samsung Galaxy Tab A2 S. The important change the device will be updated to is the latest Android security patch. But the security update is shown to be dated October 1, 2018 and the update date is December 11, 2018. Why Verizon would have waited so long to push this update is not known. This is the second update the Samsung tablet has received from Verizon. Verizon has this template of defining these software updates as including performance enhancements, fixes to known issues and then the OS security patch. It has used the same template in this case as well.

An 8 inch Tablet from Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8.0) was launched by Samsung as an 8 inch tablet, more in the ‘mini’ category or as a phablet in 2017 September. The device was running on the Android Nougat version 7 and has received the update to the Android Oreo version 8.1 earlier. There does not appear to be any proposal from Samsung to upgrade the OS to the Android Pie so far.

The tablet has 2 GB RAM and the processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC. The quad core processor has a clocking speed of 1.4 GHz and has support from 2 GB of RAM and a modest 16 GB onboard storage. However, a microSD card can lift the storage up to 256 GB, which should be more than sufficient.

The tablet has single camera units on both the rear and the front. The rear one is 8 MP and the front one 5 MP. A powerful 5000 mAh battery ensures the tablet lasts a few hours of working on the tablet before the battery drains out. The tablet is being retailed in the European markets at around 200 Euros. That should really make it a low-end tablet. The phablet lovers may on the other hand prefer this since at this price level, it’s a steal. Many college students may find the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8.0) a useful gadget to own for their various tasks.

If you got this tablet from Verizon, do check if the device has received the update OTA. If you cannot find the update, go to Verizon’s site and follow the instructions given there. The different situations in which the updates can be downloaded and installed are fully instructed by Verizon on its update page.
