New leaks revealed some interesting details about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10. The smartphone is expected to appear at the beginning of 2019, and the device will come with a fingerprint scanner located under the screen.
This feature has been rumored on the market for quite some time, and it is exciting to see that a big company will finally turn it into reality. We should remind you that this year Samsung decided to move the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone.
Three different versions
It appears that Samsung is working on three different models. “The two high-end Galaxy S models will come fitted with an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner while the other one will house an optical fingerprint sensor beneath the screen,” explained an official source.
The optical sensor is a lot cheaper than the ultrasonic version, which makes it ideal for the cheaper models. This sensor is similar to digital cameras, and it will be able to capture a 2D image of your fingerprint. With this sensor, there might be some problems, especially if your fingers are dirty or wet.
The technology used for the fingerprint is an evolved one. This time, a 3D mapped fingerprint is used, and not a flat image. This comes with plenty of advantages for the user. The scanner is more durable and it won’t be affected by factors such as sweat, water or even grease.
The new fingerprint scanner will be more accurate as well. This means that there shouldn’t be any errors when your finger is scanned, and your phone should be unlocked instantly. “The in-screen fingerprint scanning will take center stage in the smartphone market in 2019,” declared Lee Dong-joo, analyst at KTB Investment & Securities.
