Samsung Galaxy S10: Special Edition 5G Phone will be powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC

Samsung Galaxy S10: There is no longer any doubt on what processor will be fitted on the 10th-anniversary special edition Samsung Galaxy S10 5G phone; it will be the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. And this was made clear by Qualcomm while unveiling their new processor in an event in Hawaii. The 5G service to be launched next year will, therefore, be a three-way alliance, Verizon the carrier, Samsung the device maker and Qualcomm the supplier of the 5G-capable processor.

It will be a Powerful Processor

Qualcomm showcased its processor in the event with Samsung also present there with a prototype of their proposed device. This may not be the final device since one could see a notch on the display which is now more or less confirmed will not be part of this special edition phone. Qualcomm claims this new 855 processor will be able to handle data speeds which are 50 or even 100 times faster than what you see with the 4G phones. Helping the Snapdragon 855 SoC deliver on its performance will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

Other Capabilities of the New Processor

Qualcomm claimed in the launch event that the new Snapdragon 855 SoC will be equipped with the world’s first Computer Vision (CV) ISP that has AI-based capabilities. The phones, when launched with these processors, can identify faces and objects apart from video capturing functions as well. And then, the Qualcomm ultrasonic sensor comes into the picture. This is another feature that has been discussed as being added to the new Samsung phone that does away with the notch or hole on the front display. Samsung might be the first off-the-block with the new processor.

The Circle is complete Now for the 5G Service Launch

These confirmed details clear the air as far as the 5G service launch in the US is concerned as mentioned above. Apart from Verizon, AT&T is also likely to launch the 5G service and again, the same Samsung Galaxy S10 5G phone will be the device to carry the service. Its all win-win for Samsung so far and it does push rivals like Apple a little down for now. Apple is said to be planning to come out with its 5G phone only by 2020.
