Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Name Change Rumors Hint That it Will be Called Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

It was only a few days ago when the news broke out that Samsung has decided to call its second foldable smartphone model as Samsung Galaxy Bloom. There was even an image with the phone carrying a picture of a blooming flower. It now transpires that Bloom was just a code name and that the actual moniker under which the phone will be launched is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This has come via Ice Universe on Twitter and is claimed to be confirmed.

It is a Flip Phone Alright!

The backgrounder to the Samsung Galaxy Bloom had said the company intends to target 20+ years old females with this clamshell design phone that opens out vertically. The name Bloom was supposed to appeal to this targeted customer base. Now that this name stands changed to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, some people may start questioning if this is the right one. The fact is this new phone is indeed a flip phone, much like the feature phones of the bygone era when the flip phones used to be very popular. It is the same clamshell form factor with the top part the phone opening out vertically. In the first edition, the Samsung Galaxy Fold appears like a book opening horizontally.

Different Display Material

Some of the details available in the public domain about this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip foldable smartphone include a special Ultra-Thin Glass used as the material for the display. The predecessor model has a film made of a special plastic material. Samsung must be checking the device so that the display remains true after it is opened out vertically.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC is likely to be the processor. You would have expected Samsung to go for the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC to be included in this device. The rumors are that Samsung is going to price this second foldable smartphone from its stable at around half of the price fixed for the Samsung Galaxy Fold. That phone sells for $1980. The expectation is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be around $1,000.

As already reported earlier, there will be a dual-camera setup in the rear and a single selfie camera in the front. The Android 10 OS with the One UI 2.0 will be the OS.

It is also predicted that this new Samsung Galaxy Flip phone will also be launched at the same Galaxy Unpacked event to be held in San Francisco on February 11, 2020.
