Samsung Galaxy A50, Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Xcover 4S to Receive Monthly Security Updates

Android, like any other operating system in the world, is prone to viruses and malware. Google rolls out security updates every month to patch these backdoors. Samsung recently announced that monthly security updates will be available for three of its devices – the Galaxy A50, Galaxy Fold, as well as the Galaxy Xcover 4S.

Google has specified that quarterly updates are enough to ensure the safety and privacy of Android devices in its enterprise guidelines. However, monthly updates guarantee that the handsets are up to date with the maximum protection possible.

Monthly Security Updates for the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy A50, and Galaxy Xcover 4S

The Galaxy Fold is Samsung’s new foldable smartphone launched in September. It is a premium device $2,000 device and one would expect the Korean tech giant to deliver monthly security updates for the same. Along with the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has also promised monthly security updates for the Galaxy A50 and the Galaxy Xcover 4S.

The Galaxy A50 is a popular budget smartphone, which is available in selective markets. Hence, Samsung has decided to provide monthly security updates instead of quarterly that was promised earlier.

Galaxy A50

The Xcover 4S is a rugged handset in Samsung’s Xcover series of smartphones. It is surprising to see this phone on the list because it isn’t as popular as the Galaxy A50 or the Galaxy Fold. It may be because of the customer base Samsung is aiming to target with this device. The Xcover series of smartphones are preferred by enterprises due to its durability and keeping such handsets secure with monthly updates makes sense.

The latest October security update for the Galaxy A50 is already out in Europe. We don’t know if it is a part of the quarterly updates which were rolled out earlier or the upcoming monthly ones. Nevertheless, the owners should feel more secure with the updates provided by Samsung on a monthly basis.

Other Samsung Devices with Monthly Security Updates

You can see the complete list of Samsung devices that receive monthly security updates here. Most of the smartphones are flagship models of the Note and S series like the Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S10, etc. There are three handsets of the A series the Galaxy A5 (2017), A8 (2018) and the current Galaxy A50. There is only one phone from the Xcover series and that is the latest Galaxy Xcover 4S.
