How To Remove Write Protection From SD Card

It is common that most people don’t know about dealing with the “Disk Write Protect” error that they get every time they want to use their SD card in a new phone. So you simply think that the best resolution to this issue, is to format the card, and sacrifice all the data you had in it.

And the worst thing is that, many people even end up throwing their SD cards just because of this issue. Today in this article, I will be showing you step-by-step process of how you can get around that Disk Protected Error?

You’re ready Let’s do this.

How To Remove Write Protection From SD Card

First thing you need to do, is make sure that the face of the SD card’s Face is upside, and that the white plastic on the left side of the SD card is slid towards the edge of the connector (I mean towards the shortest side of the plastic). Then cover that switch with plastic, or transparent tape to cover the electrical. Just make sure that you don’t cover the brass connectors on the opposite side.

Once you’ve done that, then insert your card reader into a computer (or anyway that you use it), and then read, write or format the card as you wish. Many people don’t know, but there is a slight issue with most of these SD cards. They are built in a way to work in camera’s, MP3 players, etc. and when you try to use in your normal USB card readers, you face this issue.

Another little known thing, is that the SD cards have built it features to protect the privacy/copyrights even on blank cards. This leaves your cards useless. But once you follow the method I mentioned above, you won’t be facing any issues. And once you have done everything, that is, formatting, reading or writing on your SD card, it will then become “unprotected”. So then you can remove that tape.

And if you are still getting those errors after applying the tape, then add a second layer of the tape. Also make sure that you didn’t covered those brass connectors on the other side.

It is completely okay to make some mistakes while doing this for the first time. So make sure that you are patient. If you are having some data on your SD card, then right click on the SD card, and then tick “Read Only”. After that, try to transfer files or delete them. And if you still get the “Disk Write Protected” error, then check the tape again.

Many people think that it has something to do with the security, but it is a design flaw.
