How to Reinstall Microsoft Edge Browser in 5 Easy Steps

Gone are the days when all that Microsoft had to offer browser-wise was the shoddy and slow Internet Explorer. Let’s face it, Internet Explorer is finally dead after long and hard years of being the joke of the entire Internet community. But now Microsoft makes up for it with a new and improved browser. We’re talking about Microsoft Edge, of course. Microsoft Edge is the brand new (sort of) in-house browser developed by the renowned tech company, and it’s a pretty good one at that.

Microsoft Edge has almost none of the problems that IE had before it. Still, users can still encounter difficulties with it sometimes, and those generally arise on a newly installed Windows. If Microsoft Edge has never been opened before, that’s when you can expect it to malfunction. But luckily, these issues are easily fixed by reinstalling the program. Here’s how to do that.

Steps

  1. If Microsoft Edge is already running, make sure to close it before proceeding to the next step. This might sound moronic to even say, but it’s important so we’ll just bore you with it for now.
  2. After Microsoft Edge has been properly closed and is no longer running on your device, it’s time to dive right in. Launch File Explorer, click on View and tick ‘Hidden items’. This will uncover the folder you need to visit next. Now go to the following location: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages. Naturally, where we have put in “UserName”, you need to write your own username.
  3. Delete the folder named “Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe” from the Packages folder, and then restart your computer.
  4. Now launch Windows PowerShell in admin mode and go to your user account directory using the command “cd C:\users\yourusername”.
  5. Type in Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}, and that’s all.
