Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has been the name behind some of the best smartphones we have seen in the last few years. Just this year, when 5G phones are picking up the pace all around the world, Xiaomi launched incredible 5G supporting devices like the MIX 3 5G and the Mi 9 Pro 5G. However, its sub-brand Redmi hasn’t released any 5G phone yet. But it’s been recently confirmed that Redmi is all set to enter the 5G smartphone arena with its RedmiK30 soon. So far, neither tipsters nor official sources have revealed any information about the phone’s specifications although it’s almost certain that the phone will have a Qualcomm chip, given the 5G connectivity promised. Meanwhile, the latest information that has surfaced online reveals that the phone will be powered by a MediaTek processor.
MediaTek 5G Processor
The update on the phone’s processor came from popular Chinese tipster and blogger Digital Chat Station via Chinese social media platform Weibo. An interesting point to be noted here is that the Redmi K30’s MediaTek processor will be the second partnership release between Redmi and MediaTek in the last few months following the Redmi Note 8 Pro that came out in August this year. This could mean that we may see MediaTek chipsets on more upcoming phones from Redmi.
MediaTek had also revealed it’s 5G processor, which had a 5G modem built-in. It is a powerful 7nmSoC, which works with multi-mode 5G and runs using the Helio M70 modem. MediaTek has also said that the yet unnamed processor has the latest and most powerful Cortex A77 CPU cores and Mali-G77 GPU cores, which were launched by ARM earlier this year in May. Moreover, the said chipset has also got its own AI processing unit named the APU 3.0. Various news and online sources had revealed earlier that MediaTek’s 5G chipset is all set to be shipped to manufacturers this quarter. The same sources also revealed that smartphone brands like Oppo and Vivo have their 5G phones planned as well, but it’snot been confirmed whether they’ll run on the MediaTek processor.
As mentioned above, the dynamic growth in the 5G spectrum around the world has not only brought with it many 5G smartphones but also 5G supporting processors. While Qualcomm and MediaTek have already marked their presence with their powerful 5G processors, Samsung’s not far behind with its in-home Exynos 980 5G processor. Sources have revealed that Vivo will be launching a new 5G phone Vivo X30 5G, which will be powered by the Exynos 980.
Meanwhile, Redmi has announced that it will launch its first 5G phone in early 2020, therefore the MediaTek powered K30 should not be expected to come out this year.
