Xiaomi is one of the strongest players in the Asian market and their smartphone sales have not slumped at all. The brand has continued to push more models than ever before while bigger brands are trying to focus on the mid-range market.
The exact opposite exists in the smartphone market right now as the flagship creator Google has launched the Pixel 3a which is $399 and wants to acquire more users in the entry-level zone. Xiaomi, on the other hand, is actually planning to boost their Redmi smartphones to flagship status. The Redmi K20 will be the next big launch that you can look forward to and the letter K in the phone stands for Killer, or it is what the company wants everyone to know including their competitors, we guess!
Xiaomi has been a very active participant similar to OnePlus that conducts amazing events and launch parties. They engage their buyers like no other. The Chinese firm’s CEO created an online poll allowing users to vote on Weibo and suggest the name for the next killer flagship for the company. The options included T20, P20, K20 and X20 with the name that acquired the most votes being used for the actual phone. They also later added that K stands for Killer but there is no official explanation of why the number 20 is being used in it.
Everything is about choices in modern day where manufacturers are willing to provide three or two different variants at different price points. The Redmi K20 will be a flagship but it will feature a lower processor, possibly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 which is more than adequate for everyday tasks. A Pro edition of the same phone is also expected to get launched and when it does, it will be the true flagship sporting the latest Snapdragon 855 processor.
The actual hardware specifications of these smartphones are hard to deduce with accuracy because through official sources and leaked information, we have managed to find they will have multiple variants and use different chipsets. Lin Bin, President of Xiaomi revealed an image of himself taking a selfie with a pop-up camera. So, we can also add to the fact that the phone will not use punch-hole cameras but rather go the Vivo route with a camera that slides out of the phone.
The rear side sports a triple camera setup. From what we have known so far, the Redmi K20 will sport 6.39-inch AMOLED display, an 8 MP telephoto lens,48 MP rear camera and 13 MP ultra-wide sensor. There could be some changes in the actual specs. It will also have an in-display fingerprint sensor and 4,000 mAh battery and the pricing should determine how popular the device can get when it is launched.
