Fans are excited about the upcoming launch of OnePlus 6 which is going to take place today during an event in London. Tomorrow another launch event will be hosted for OnePlus 6 in India. Now, ahead of the release, OnePlus has decided to finally release the beta version of the May security patch for OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users. This update brings a host of new features for older OnePlus phones that users have been waiting a long time for. Today we will be talking more about these updates to give you more details of what is to come.
First steps of downloading the patch
The May security patch for OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T is still in its beta version, so that means that you have to be very careful when installing it. The first thing that we recommend you do is first backing up all your current data that you have on your phone. After you have done and you have double checked that your data is secure, then you can open the beta version of the update and install on your phone. You can only download it by having a stable Wi-Fi connection. We do not recommend that you download it using your data since the size of the update is not so small that it can be looked over.
If your phone is enrolled in the beta testing, then you will be getting the notification in the next couple of days, if you have not received it as of yet. Now, we also need to be aware of the fact that this is only the beta version and that within the next week or so OnePlus will surely release the stable, official version as well. But for now, the beta version is just as good.
Group MMS feature
The weird and unsettling thing for OnePlus users is that Android Messages (the default app that comes with your phone) does not support Group MMS. What does this mean? Well, if you want to share an MMS message with your group chat, then each message from each member of the group will show a different thread on your phone. We understand that that can be incredibly annoying. Moreover, it creates a lot of clutter, and nobody ever wants to deal with that, we included.
So, what does the May security patch do? Well, it fixes this problem, to be honest. All users will now be able to send MMS messages in their chat groups without having to deal with the hassle that we previously explained. We believe that this was a move long overdue, but we are happy that OnePlus has finally decided to fix this problem. OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users will now be able to chat easily without having to clean the clutter in their threads every so often.
The May security patch is going to bring a host of improvement to the OnePlus Switch feature. If you do not have a OnePlus phone, you may not know what this feature is about, so we are going to tell you. In a nutshell, OnePlus Switch is a feature that is found on all OnePlus devices which allow users to switch the data from their older phone to the new OnePlus one. It allows for a smoother transfer of the data between your old smartphone that you are not going to use anymore to your new OnePlus phone.
OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T phone users will now have an optimized interface for backup and restore. Moreover, OnePlus Switch will now explain to the user the logic behind the time remaining for the transfer of data. Not only this, but this features will also receive a host of bug fixes and improvements that focus on the app’s stability. This will ensure that OnePlus Switch is now a perfectly stable and reliable feature for every OnePlus owner, especially those who own the smartphones that we have already listed.
Updates to the Launcher Slide
Last but not least, the May security patch also focuses on adding a host of improvements to the Launcher side. By this, we mean that there is now a new Toolbox Card in the OnePlus Shelf. There is also a new Hidden Space slot added to the app drawer. Users will also have the option to edit dynamic icons like the one for weather, for the clock icon and the calendar.
Possible Android P upgrade
OnePlus 6 is already on the list of phones to receive the Android p upgrade. It will come with Android Oreo out of the box. However, what is the fate for OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T? Well, when these phones were released, they came with Android nougat OS. Recently, OnePlus has upgraded all of these phones to Android Oreo. Shortly we may see the company release an update which will bring Android P to these phones, but that is still to be announced.
Overall, we believe that the May security patch brings a large number of new features that focus on improving the user’s experience and making many different features more stable. We are excited to see what future updates will bring. Will they be focused only on security and stability issues or will they add something new? We have to wait and see, but we have to admit that we cannot wait to see what will happen.
