OnePlus seems to be planning to make 5G standard in 2020 after one last 5G Phone in 2019

OnePlus 7T Pro leaks

It’s been a few days since the launch of the OnePlus 7T series – OnePlus 7T was first revealed in India on 26th  September, while OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition were unveiled in London on Thursday. A noteworthy point is that the entire OnePlus 7T lineup is 4G-enabled, although a 5G variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro had already been revealed earlier in 2019. 5G is not in India yet, so that’s a different story. However, it is available in many other parts of the world. But anyway, users can expect the next generation of OnePlus phones to be powered by 5G, especially after the company’s CEO Pete Lau made some interesting comments at the London event for the OnePlus 7T Pro launch. With dramatically expanding markets and competition for 5G, it is very likely that all OnePlus phones launched in 2020 will have 5G as standard.

After the launch of the OnePlus 7T series in London, Pete Lau had said in a media talk that their company was looking at the suitability of a 5G smartphone in various countries with support for the same and would plan its device features accordingly. Lau also affirmed the belief that for 2020, a trend is definitely that all flagship devices must have 5G.

Lau’s statement reflected concerns we had spoken about earlier, primarily the availability of 5G in various parts of the world. Lau was caught saying “Speaking about 5G development in different countries, things are at various different stages. In India, for example, there may not be 5G availability next year. So again, this has to go back to looking at suitability for products in different regions.”The company will likely launch upcoming phones with 5G ready-to-use for markets where it is available, and keep them ready for where it isn’t yet, like India.

A similar case occurred with OnePlus 7 Pro 5G which was launched earlier in May this year. The device was exclusive to a network operator EE in the UK, while other markets received4G variants. Meanwhile, Lau has also confirmed that a second 5G phone will be coming soon from OnePlus in 2019. As of now, all eyes are on the brand new OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition, which is subject to availability, and will be coming to India on 5th November. This is OnePlus’s second-time collaboration with sports car brand McLaren. When Lau was asked if it will continue, he replied that they (OnePlus) were exploring what opportunities lie ahead of them, and when they have more news, they would be excited to share it.
