On Tuesday we got the chance to see the announcement of the OnePlus 5, and from what it seems, it’s already a success, despite not being available to the public yet. Next Tuesday we will finally have the chance to get it, and we have to admit that its release comes at a very interesting moment in this industry. One of its main rivals is the Galaxy S8, the much awaited product made by Samsung.
Design and Display
It’s already a tradition for Chinese manufacturers to copy the design from iPhone, and the OnePlus makes no exception to this rule. At the same time, the device also resembles the Samsung Galaxy S8, which places both phones on an equal position. You can get it in Slate Gray and Midnight Black options, featuring a minimalistic unibody design. It brings a 5.5-inches Full HD screen, compared to the 5.8-inches Quad HD display brought by Samsung. Samsung has a curved display, which is a plus, and it has a sleek design.
OnePlus wants to distance itself from the other Android smartphones with its amazing specs. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and it comes in two versions: 6 or 8 GB RAM options or 64 and 128 GB internal storage. OnePlus does offer their own VR headset, but they haven’t delved that deep into this domain. They do have Full HD resolution, but that’s not too useful for VR.
Meanwhile, Samsung S8 also runs on the same type of chipset, but it offers 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. There is indeed an upgraded version of the model, with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory, this is quite limited and you may not find it. All in all, both devices are great, but it seems that OnePlus 5 is winning!
