OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be upgraded to the Android Pie, at least for the users of the devices in China. According to reports in the official forum linked to OnePlus, many users have already reported that their devices have been upgraded to the stable version of the Android Pie OS.
No Details on When the Rest of the Markets will Receive the Update
As mentioned, these two OnePlus devices are seen to be receiving the firmware upgrade only from Chinese sources. Incidentally, the company had released the in-house UI, the Hydrogen OS as adapted to the Android Pie OS only last month. That was the beta version of the OS. Hydrogen OS 9.0.1 is the version number seen.
Another factor to be noted is that the HydrogenOS latest version is as big as 2GB in size. If you own one of these devices, you should take care of this aspect since it could occupy a large space on your device.
Some of the Known Changes Described
The improvements brought about in the OS by OnePlus are not very different from what you would see on the stock Android Pie. These include the gesture-based variations that cover the whole display and other features that Android Pie has introduced. The routine additions to the updates, like the Android security patches and solutions to the identified issues. There are the performance improvement features added as well.
The do not disturb (DND) mode that puts the apps to sleep when you don’t want them to trouble you with notifications. The new OS version is expected to bring in better system stability.
Apart from these, there is a new Game Mode 3.0 that modifies the settings to make the gaming experience more interesting.
OnePlus has released the OS upgrades to the OnePlus 6T and the other variants, most of them released in 2018. OnePlus 3 and 3T users have been promised for Pie upgrades in 2019.
Smartphone makers receive the latest versions of the OS from Google and do the internal modifications needed to make it operate on their individual models. That is the reason the companies take their time releasing the upgrades one by one.
