Nokia 1, Nokia 1 Plus and Nokia 2.1 are Receiving Android 10 Go Edition Updates

Nokia has been one among the first manufacturers to announce Android 10 for its entire Android smartphone lineup earlier this month. The manufacturer’s roadmap highlighted updates, which started from the fourth quarter of 2019 to the second quarter of 2020. The smartphones that are receiving the Android 10 update in the fourth quarter of 2019 are Nokia 7.1, Nokia 8.1, as well as the Nokia 9 Pureview.

Google also announced the Android 10 Go Edition this week. Nokia was ready for these updates as well. The Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, Nokia’s parent company, posted a roadmap for their entry-level Android Go devices to receive the Android 10 Go Edition update as well.

Android 10 Go Edition Updates for Nokia Android Go Phones

A tweet mentioned that the entry-level smartphones should have experience at par with the flagships. This is why Nokia is working towards bringing the latest Android 10 Go Edition updates for its Nokia 1, Nokia 1 Plus and Nokia 2.1 devices as early as possible.

The new roadmap also mentioned the Nokia 1 Plus receiving the Android 10 Go Edition update in the first quarter of 2020. The Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 1 devices will receive the update later in the second quarter of 2020.

The Nokia 1 Plus was released in February 2019 with a 5.45-inch display and 1 GB RAM. It originally shipped with Android 9 Pie version of Android Go and is now being updated to Android 10 Go Edition.

The Nokia 2.1 was released later in August 2019 with upgraded specs that included a Snapdragon 425 quad-core 1.4GHz processor and the same 1 GB RAM. It also shipped with the Android 9 Pie version of Android Go and will be receiving the Android 10 Go Edition updates in the second quarter of 2020.

What’s New in Android 10 Go Edition?

According to Google, the Android 10 Go Edition is an optimized version of Android 10, which retains some of the essential features of Android 10  for devices with 1GB or less RAM. The Android 10 Go Edition will have features like a system-wide night mode, up to ten percent faster multitasking performance, as well as built-in encryption. The encryption provided in the Android 10 Go is Adiantum which is an encryption standard that can work on low-end devices without hampering the overall performance of the devices.

Nokia is getting ready to take over the smartphone market once again with its new parent company, HMD Global. Mid-range smartphones from Nokia like the Nokia 8.1 are gaining attraction in the market due to its Android One support and fast updates. With the updates being announced for its Android Go smartphones too, it will be uphill from now on for Nokia.
