Microsoft Says No Hike in the Pricing of Xbox Live Gold

Recently, there were reports suggesting that Microsoft was in the process of increasing the price of its Xbox Live and doing away with the one-year subscription offer. The company, through a blog post, revealed that a one-month subscription will cost $1 extra and one has to pay $5 more for the three-month subscription. Microsoft also stated that users who have a 6 or 12-month long Xbox Live Gold subscription will not be affected by the hike in price and their membership will be renewed at the current price.

Whenever a price hike in a product or a service is announced, it ends up putting off a large number of people. That’s exactly what happened when Microsoft came up with this announcement. Taking the sentiments of its loyal customers into account, Microsoft decided to roll back this decision. Not just that, it even made an update to the blog post and stated that “We messed up today and you were right to let us know”.

“Connecting and playing with friends is a vital part of gaming and we failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day. As a result, we have decided not to change Xbox Live Gold pricing”, it further stated.

All the changes that Microsoft made to the pricing of the Xbox Live no longer remain valid. The company confirmed a few more things that it believed would be playing around in most users’ minds. Those who are already a member of the Xbox Live Gold can renew their membership by paying the current price. Both new and existing members can avail themselves of Xbox Live Gold at the price they were paying for it till recently. In the United States, users will have to pay $9.99 for a 1-month subscription,$24.99 for 3-months, $39.99 for 6-months, and $59.99 for 12-months. All these declarations were made in the blog update.

Microsoft also stated that a user won’t require a subscription to have access to free-to-play games on Xbox.

The price hike was done with an aim of getting users to upgrade themselves to or start using the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which happens to be Microsoft’s premium gaming subscription service. It comprises of Xbox Live Gold, makes cloud gaming accessible to its users, and offers more than a hundred games that users can play on their Xbox. It also includes some titles belonging to the new Xbox Game Studio like the soon-to-be-launched Halo Infinite.
