In the last couple of years, the developers of the Sims 4 have made sincere efforts towards making the game more inclusive and user-friendly. The efforts are visible in some of the changes that have been implemented in the past. However, there are still a few issues that plague the game and rob the players off some of the joys they could have while playing the game.
One of the most prominent problems associated with the game is the fact that gendered language continues to be a part of it. Despite the issues associated with it, loyal fans believe that some of the long-awaited changes will be implemented soon enough and the game will get better.
The Sims 4 franchise has always been considered to be quite inclusive. Apart from including members belonging to the LGBTQIA2+ community, the franchise has not shied away from incorporating content that has references to alternate sexuality. It has featured gender customization options for a very long time. And, this is one of the things the game has received accolades for in the past.
The fact that the game has shown massive improvement in the recent past cannot be denied. The first edition of the game only gave opposite genders the freedom to ‘procreate’. That is one of the many things that has changed.
However, even today the game does not feature any gendered pronouns. When one has to opt for a body frame type, only words like ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ are used. In fact, these are the only two options you get at your disposal when you are browsing through different hairstyles and fashion choices.
Petition to Include Pronoun Options for Trans and Non-Binary Sims in Sims 4
For some time now, the developers have been trying to incorporate non-gendered language. Some of the initiatives taken in this direction include referring to Sims by the names given to them and not by their gender. A lot of players have brought to one’s notice the fact that Transgender and Non-Binary Sims are still not being represented in the game.
The unrest brewing in the players’ minds has now come to the fore in a big way with streamer @MomoMisfortune starting a petition to get some important changes implemented in Sims 4.
According to MomoMisfortune, if players get the option to choose pronouns for their Sim, they will be more comfortable and it will make the game truly gender-neutral. The streamer further stated that those who do not feel represented in the game will feel at home once it is done.
As of now, more than 5,000 players have shown their support for the petition by signing it. The petition is titled ‘Pronoun Options for Trans and Non-Binary Sims in The Sims 4’ and can be found on Change.org.
