In a largely saturated market, the Zenfone 6 and its successor the Zenfone 7 series have successfully managed to create a mark for themselves with their outstanding and high-utility features. All three smartphones feature a motorized flip camera system that enables the cameras at the rear end of the device to also function as front-facing cameras. While there is no confirmation on whether the design of those phones will be repeated in the new models this year, reports suggest that ASUS will introduce a premium, compact flagship phone that will be titled Zenfone Mini.
According to a report published in DigiTimes, a small form factor is what the Zenfone Mini will have. While one does not know what the exact size of the device would be, it is expected to be smaller than the Zenfone 6/ASUS 6Z which features a 6.4-inch display screen. The display screen’s size should be less than 6 inches but above 5.5 inches. There is a lot of speculation about the other technical aspects of the phone but nothing is confirmed yet.
Apart from the compact screen, the Zenfone Mini is expected to feature flagship specifications. If the company decided to keep the price of the phone moderate, the device would then run either on the Snapdragon 888 or the Snapdragon 870 processor. The cameras should at least be of flagship-grade and the phone must support 30W fast charging. Since the footprint of the phone has been kept in check, the battery should only be moderately powerful.
As of now, there is no information as to when ASUS will launch the next-generation Zenfone flagship series. Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro, both of which came out in the market last year, were officially launched by the company towards the end of August. Their predecessor, the Zenfone 6, was launched three months prior to that. One of the prominent reasons behind the delay in the product launch was the unavailability of raw materials and components in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.
While the ROG Phone 3 was launched in July last year, the ROG Phone 5 is expected to get an early release with it arriving in the stores in March this year. Because of this, there is a good chance of the Zenfone 8 series getting launched in the first half of 2021.
