In the early hours of 5 February 2021, Xiaomi teased users on social media by stating that it would offer them a glimpse of something that boasts of novelty and innovation in equal measures. It immediately got social media users thinking and many of them dropped their guesses in the form of comments and posts on social media.
A while later, the multinational electronics company lived up to its promise by revealing the first look of its first Quad Curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone. It released a proper poster which had the picture of the phone along with text material. What is unique about this smartphone is that it boasts of a curved display on all four corners. The image poster of the device was shared by Xiaomi on its official Twitter handle.
All four edges of the phone are curved around the corners of the device at 88 degrees. While many smartphones in the past have featured curved edges, this is the first time all the four edges of a phone are curved. Therefore, the first Quad Curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone by Xiaomi is truly unique and could prove to be a game-changer in the long run.
It is a well-designed and robust handset that is innovative in ways more than one. When you look at the front end of the device, you would get the impression that it is largely covered by its display screen, except for the corners.
In an official statement, Xiaomi claimed that it managed to develop the quad curve 88-degree surface by “countless breakthroughs in glass bending and laminating technology to extend the limits of the display to infinity”. The smartphone manufacturer also stated that the phone has a port-free unibody design and has been produced with as many as 46 patents. The 88-degree curved edges have earlier featured in phones like the Mate 30 Pro.
In the past, other OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) have launched curved edge smartphones in the market. However, most of those phones had just about two curved edges that were placed on either end of the phone. Usually, the top-notch and bottom-chin region of the device had flat edges. While this concept phone by Xiaomi looks highly attractive and innovative, one is not sure as to when the company will give it a commercial launch.
