In the last couple of years, TikTok has emerged as one of the most popular entertainment or media-based apps across the world. The app enables one to shoot and upload short videos through their profiles. While there is not much of a restriction on the kind of content one can share, the length of the video should not be more than 60 seconds.
Many people across the world manage to achieve stardom and the title of ‘social media influencers’, courtesy of TikTok. While the app has been lapped up by a large number of people, it has also been mired in controversy at different points in time. Taking Beijing’s policies into account, it has been accused of censoring content on several occasions. On June 29, 2020, TikTok was banned permanently by the Indian government for geopolitical reasons.
Despite all the controversy and negativity surrounding it at times, TikTok’s popularity has managed to grow steadily with time. In today’s day and age, when a large number of people have smart TVs in their homes and consume most of their content on them, it has become important for apps to be compatible not just with smartphones but smart TVs as well.
Guess, this was something the top executives at TikTok had taken note of a while back. Perhaps, that explains the company coming up with an Android TV version of the app. The TikTok for Android TV app can now be found on the Play Store for the Chromecast with Google TV. As of now, TikTok is also available in certain regions apart from featuring on Google’s device.
According to a report published in Android Police, the viewers have two options. They can simply open the app and watch any of the innumerable videos on it or sign-in to their accounts and watch videos that they might have added to a curated list. Signing in is quite a convenient process. After pressing the up-navigation button, you can see the sign-in option. After that, you can either scan a QR code or enter a code to get going.
The videos on the Android TV app would be in portrait mode, similar to how they appear on your smartphone. The controls on the app are quite simple and easy to operate. The navigating buttons present on the right and left, help in skipping the video forward and backward. When you press the ‘More’ button, you get to see a lot of other options.
