Microsoft Edge Browser Update: New Themes, Features and a Lot More

Ever since its launch in the year 2015, Microsoft Edge has steadily made its presence felt like a reliable, modern-day browser. Unlike the earlier days of the internet, there is a lot of competition today what with a plethora of web browsers vying for the users’ attention. While it is quite common to see browsers opting for an upgrade at regular intervals, one barely gets to see a massive improvement vis-à-vis features, themes etcetera.

Microsoft Edge, however, with its latest update, is offering its users access to a large variety of features and themes. Interestingly, this new update has happened almost exactly a year after the Chromium-powered version of the browser was launched.

A large number of users who expect their browser to offer a good visual experience will be quite pleased with the arrival of a bunch of vibrant themes on Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has stated that it has launched as many as 24 themes for its users so that they can have a visually stimulating experience while using the browser. Some of the themes like Halo, Sea Of Thieves, Gears, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Forza are similar to the ones you find on Xbox.

When you choose to apply a particular theme, a new background appears on the new tab page, address bar, tabs, and several other areas of the browser. Microsoft also recently tested and implemented vertical tabs in the Dev channel. Microsoft has plans to integrate some more elements of its Fluent design system into Microsoft Edge. The effect of this can be observed in the icons in the browser which now appear softer and rounder than before. While Microsoft has shared that it wants to get more of its Fluent design system to many of its other products, it has refrained from sharing further information about it.

Another feature that is bound to attract a lot of attention in the browser is the ‘Sleeping Tabs. Microsoft has stated this particular feature will improve the overall performance of the browser by boosting CPU resource usage and memory.

Apart from these, Microsoft is also integrating a host of password manager features in the browser. ‘Password generator’ is one of its offshoot features. This particular feature will recommend you a secure password when you sign up for a new account or wish to change your password. There is also the password monitor feature which will let you know if any of your passwords is a part of a group of leaked credentials on the internet.
