Every year, Apple loyalists look forward to the arrival of the upgraded version of the iPhone. There are many who don’t even mind replacing their month-old iPhone with the latest model that just came out in the market. New features, better specifications, and improved technology are some of the things they expect from a new model of iPhone.
Like every year, 2021 would also mark the arrival of a new range of iPhones. While Apple hasn’t released any new information about the next-generation iPhone series, a recently published report in Bloomberg gives some idea about what one should expect from the upcoming range of iPhones.
According to the report, Apple isn’t aiming to implement any major change in the next-generation phones but there is one particular feature tech enthusiasts can look forward to. If the information given in the report turns out to be accurate, the upgraded models will feature an in-screen fingerprint reader.
The Bloomberg report also states that the engineers working with Apple are calling the next-generation iPhone to be an ‘S’ year upgrade. This basically means that the upgrades are relatively minor and would not offer many surprises. It must be noted here that the 2020 model boasted of several upgrades. The number of changes or additions made were much higher than what a regular iPhone update consists of. Apart from featuring 5G connectivity, there were several changes in the structural design and a bunch of additional features in the 2020 model. The 2021 model, therefore, will be an ‘S’ version, a nomenclature attached with iPhones that boast of limited or minor upgrades.
The big difference, as stated earlier, is the possibility of the inclusion of an in-screen fingerprint reader. We are using the term ‘possibility’ here because Apple is still mulling over the fact whether they should add this feature to the iPhone 12S or not. What is certain, though, is the fact that this feature is being tested at the moment.
In the past, there have been reports about the Touch ID making a comeback to iPhones but this is the first time – in a very long time – that one has come across such strong reports supporting this piece of information.
In August 2019, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the global tech giant is planning to launch an iPhone that will feature Face ID and under-screen Touch ID. Even leaker L0vetodream, who is known to have sources in Apple, claimed that the company is planning to launch a smartphone that will have an in-screen Touch ID.
