iPhone SE2 and 2020 iPad Pro Delayed as Coronavirus Postpones Apple’s Product Launch Event

Apple is likely to postpone its product launch event as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus. The product launch event, though not officially announced, was expected to be held this month. Reports suggest that the event was expected to witness the launch of new iPhones and the iPad Pro.

As per the rumors, Apple was expected to stage the event on 31st March at the Apple Park in Cupertino. The continuous rise in coronavirus cases across California has prompted the Santa Clara Public Health Department to issue an order banning any public gatherings of 1,000 or more people. The ban runs until April 1st.

COVID-19’s looming threat across California was not the only reason behind the event getting rescheduled. Apple is reportedly encountering delays in production. Factories that were expected to supply Apple with components for assembling the new devices remained shut for over a week, disrupting Apple’s initial product launch schedule.

Even after the resumption of operations at these factories, the production continued to be on the lower side. The coronavirus outbreak in China meant that a major chunk of their workforce didn’t turn up for work. Travel restrictions meant that there were no reinforcement options available either.

The much-awaited low-budget iPhone SE2 was not the only expected highlight at Apple’s launch event. The company was also planning to launch the iPad Pro with the all-new triple-lens camera setup. The production of iPad Pro also stands delayed.

The iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 is expected to resemble iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch LCD display and an improvised A13 Bionic processor. Apart from iPhone SE2 and iPad Pro, Apple is expected to launch the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. A more compact wireless charging mat and an improved version of Apple Airpod were also expected to highlight the launch event.

Apple did not send any official invite for the event to anyone. Officials from the Santa Clara County Health Department were also not available to reveal if any discussions with Apple were held regarding the event. Multiple sources have confirmed by now that Apple has rescheduled the launch event citing multiple reasons.

The coronavirus outbreak has been spreading rapidly across the country. There have been 133 positive cases in California with 19 of them being from Santa Clara County. The number of positive cases across the country has breached the 900 mark. At least 30 of those who have been reported positive with COVID-19 have died so far in the country.

  • Fresh rumors claim mass production of Apple’s iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus has commenced
  • The device could probably be announced online by April if we don’t see an update on or before March 31
  • iPhone 9 will most likely have the same design and form factor as iPhone 8
  • The Facial ID feature won’t be part of the iPhone 9

Ending months and even years of speculation, it is now being claimed that Apple’s successor to the iPhone 8, the iPhone 9, will start shipping very soon. The device is under mass production currently and you should not be surprised if the company makes the announcement before March 31, 2020. At best, it could be April, not beyond that. It is also suggested that there is now no confusion on the name of the model either, it’s going to be the iPhone 9.

Are There Any Fresh Rumors on the Specifications?

There are no new revelations on the specifications of the iPhone 9.

The phone will follow the external design and form factor of the iPhone 8. The display will be 4.7-inches in size and the bezels will all be there. Bezel sizes have not been reduced as was anticipated by fans. There will be the physical home button which will also function as the fingerprint sensor. The Touch ID technology will be very much in action. There won’t be any Facial ID feature on this device.

The camera section on the iPhone 9 is tipped to have just a single 12MP shooter. Rumors say an identical 12MP sensor will come fitted as the front camera as well. The A13 Bionic chipset is going to be a game-changer along with 3GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. Another 128GB variant is also expected to be launched along with this.

There is no definite information on the battery size and whether there will be fast charging support to it. The general expectation is that the battery size will be bumped to handle the increasing power requirement with the new and improved processor. The operating system is likely to be the iOS 13.4 version and will get upgraded to the iOS 14 when the new software version is released later in the year.

Will There Be iPhone 9 Plus As Well?

The rumors go on to predict that while all the attention has been on the iPhone 9, Apple is going to launch an iPhone 9 Plus model as well. There have been very little by way of rumors and leaks on this model. If it is going to be the successor to the iPhone 8 Plus, then the display size could be 5.5-inches. The camera setup in the rear could see a dual-sensor arrangement. There should be no doubt that the A13 Bionic chipset will be fitted on this model too. There is a case for increasing the RAM to 4GB or at least add a 4GB variant with the 256GB onboard storage. The battery will have to be larger than the 2,700mAh unit found on the iPhone 8 Plus.

What is the Launch Date of the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus?

There are no official release dates for these models but we can expect them to be announced before the end of April.

The only debate that’s going around is when Apple will be releasing the device in the market, particularly since it is being confirmed that its mass production has commenced. The company just announced its iPad Pro models without any fanfare. It was just a media release and the pre-orders started immediately. Will it follow the same pattern with the iPhone 9 too? You will have to wait to know the answer to this.

What Could Be The Price of the iPhone 9 and 9 Plus?

The rumors have continued to hold that Apple will fix a price of $399 for the 64GB variant of the iPhone 9. The 128GB variant may be sold at $449. There are no indications of what the prices of the iPhone 9 Plus would be.

Apple’s iPhone 12 to be Released on Time Despite the Coronavirus Effect

Published

on

Despite the majority of Apple’s factories in China grappling hard against the COVID-19 outbreak, Apple continues to prepare for the launch of the iPhone 12 as scheduled. A report released on Thursday confirms that the company’s new product launch cycle is yet to take a hit due to the global COVID-19 outbreak.

The report published originally by Bloomberg cites sources having knowledge about the matter. Apple’s next product launch event in Fall will feature an iPhone 12 lineup. The next-gen lineup is expected to have the first of 5G iPhones.

Apple’s supply was impacted severely as factories in China had to remain shut down after the Chinese New Year holidays. Foxconn, one of Apple’s major component manufacturers, is still fighting to resume normalcy in production after shutting down operations in early February.

Apple’s production cycle depends severely on component supplies. If there are not enough supplies, the assembly centers won’t be working as intended. As per Bloomberg’s report, a person working with Apple’s supply system cites low component supplies as the reason for operations moving at a below-par speed.

Apple usually has its new flagship devices up for public launch in September followed by the start of mass production in May. This schedule gives the component suppliers a fair bit of time to regroup and still deliver. Foxconn has promised to resume production as usual by the end of March.

Reports suggest that Apple had already built the test versions for its upcoming iPhone 12 lineup. Despite a lag in production for its existing products, Apple was able to complete the production of test devices for its new lineup before the factories had shut down in February.

Chinese factories are not the only reasons for Apple to worry about. Malaysia, a country home to more than five of Apple’s suppliers, has forced them to shut down for two weeks. The country has issued self-quarantine orders to restrict the spread of COVID-19.

Apple is also relying on the United Kingdom, South Korea, Italy, the United States, and Germany. COVID-19 has left Italy reeling while affecting the other mentioned countries also severely. It is an obvious guess that Apple will have to expect a delay in production.

In case Apple does pull off the required production for a September launch, it will have to send engineers to Chinese factories for testing the new lineup.
