OnePlus 8 Pro

A series of leaked photos of OnePlus 8 Pro reveal punch-hole selfie cameras and hardware specs such as Snapdragon 865 processor and 12 GB RAM. The OnePlus 8 series is to be launched in three models with different specs namely OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Lite. The latest leak revealed that the makers had come up with an exciting design for the OnePlus 8 Pro and it had all the glory.

The leaked image gives some insight into other specifications such as the new Snapdragon 865 5G architecture by Qualcomm, combined with 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The images were taken from a Snapchat user’s story, which takes the title Lao OP Inside. The leaked photo also shows the complete front side and rear side of the unit alongside the specifications. In the top left corner in the camera, you can see a single punch-hole space for the selfie snapper.

The bezels all around the device’s chin seem to be pretty minimal. It contains a triple camera setup on the backside, according to the leaks. OnePlus 8 Pro is also going to flaunt its main 64MP sensor along with a 20MP sensor and a 12MP sensor. Talking about the display, the new OnePlus device will likely feature an AMOLED 6.65-inch screen with an incredible refresh rate of 120Hz.

The launch of the flagship OnePlus 8 series appears to be coming soon; however, the company and its makers have not yet made it official. OnePlus will reveal a new product on March 3rd, but it isn’t believed to be the OnePlus 8 or a commercial product. The device stands out as among the most awaited tech gadgets of 2020.

All these leaks seem to be very impressive and would surely catch the eye of many. The OnePlus 8 Pro is set to launch on the 3rd of April 2020 at an expected price of around USD $795 and will be available in 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. A lite version of the new OnePlus 8 is set to launch later this year. So users will have to wait and see what OnePlus has to offer its users.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Series Gets the Next Firmware Update

Published

on

Galaxy S20
  • New software update for the Samsung Galaxy S 20 models from Samsung
  • It contains camera improvements and the April security update
  • This is the third update after the release of the devices launched in February 2020

How Many Updates for the Galaxy S20 Models?

Samsung is already sending the second or third firmware update to its Galaxy S20 series flagships launched only in February 2020. Most reviews of the devices have not reported any flaw in the camera system in the Samsung Galaxy S20 or the other two higher models, the Galaxy S20+ and S20 Ultra.

Yet, the first update was said to contain certain improvement features. It was mainly the autofocus function which perhaps some users had complained about and the update was sent. While in some cases the March 2020 Android security update patch was also included, in others, only the security update patch was sent. Now, this software update is claimed to have camera improvement features besides the April 2020 Android security update patch.

For the record, the update version is identified as G98x0ZHU1ATCT. You have the option to manually download this update if you are yet to receive the update on your device.

The update details in English

Region-Specific Updates?

Observers point out that Samsung has a separate set of software updates for those users of its flagship devices in markets like China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. They are different from the ones found in the software updates sent to the rest of the world. The update now sighted appears to be for these countries looking at the language in it.

It is yet to be confirmed if the same update will go to the other markets in the world or not. Even if it does, it is not clear if the camera improvement feature in this will be there in it or just the April 2020 Android security update. It is possible the Samsung Galaxy S20 devices in China and Hong Kong and Taiwan did not receive the update earlier.

Users in the other regions have to watch out for the update.

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) Receiving Upgrade to Android 10 with One UI2.0

Published

Samsung Galaxy A9
  • Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) being upgraded to the Android 10 OS and One UI 2.0 interface
  • The phone has a quad-camera setup in the rear
  • Samsung is upgrading some of the other Galaxy phones too, with Android 10 OS

In a move that can surprise many in the industry, Samsung is upgrading the firmware on its 2018 Galaxy A series smartphones to the Android 10-based One UI 2.0. The latest to receive the upgrade is the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018). As reported on a few occasions earlier, the South Korean smartphone brand has displayed enthusiasm in providing its devices with software upgrades. This has been seen both in terms of the speed with which the updates have sent OTA as well as the number of devices being covered with the upgrades.

What’s Significant about the Galaxy A9 (2018)?

When you mention Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), the first thing that comes to your mind is the quad-camera setup in the device. Samsung came out with this in the year 2018. That was the period Samsung was seen to be a little conservative with its Galaxy S series flagships while the Galaxy A series smartphones were more open for the introduction of new hardware and features. Things have changed now with the best and the latest reserved for only the premium offerings.

More Details about this Update

It must be clarified here that Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), as released for the global market and which is otherwise identified as SM-A920F, is being pushed through with the Android 10 OS and the One UI 2.0. The software version is identified as A920FXXU3CTCD. There are two more variants, one for its local market in South Korea and the other China referred by their codes, SM-A920N and SM-A9200 respectively. These are presumably not receiving the current firmware update in this form at least. The company may send them separately.

The Frija manual download route for the software update

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), at the time of its release, was loaded with the then ruling OS, the Android Oreo, version 8 along with Samsung Experience 9.0 as the UI. The phone then received the upgrade to the Android Pie version 9.0 last year. This will be the second software upgrade for the device. Most smartphone brands limit the upgrades to two and don’t go beyond that. The only exceptions are Apple’s iPhones and Google’s Pixel range smartphones which upgrade their old models too to the latest firmware versions.

Samsung Display Will Stop LCD Display Production by the End of 2020

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy
  • Samsung will not produce LCD panels from 2021 onwards
  • The four lines, two in China and two in S. Korea will be closed by the end of 2020
  • All existing orders will be supplied to the companies

What is the Development?

The company operates 2 liquid crystal display (LCD) panel production lines in South Korea and 2 more in China. These production lines will now be completely shut down and, in their place, Samsung plans to start making the latest technology screens using quantum dot technologies. However, that might not happen immediately as the investment now is to start the quantum dot screens on one of these lines in South Korea.

LCD panels have been going out of fashion for some time. Apple, one of Samsung’s largest customers, had already switched to the OLED panels for their iPhone range except for the budget model. From this year, the expectation is that all iPhone models will sport the OLED panels only. The falling demand could have been one of the major reasons for Samsung’s decision to close down the LCD panel production.

Samsung

The OLED panels have virtually pushed the LCD panels out of sight

What about the Orders Already in Hand?

The company has clarified that the actual closing down of the LCD production lines will occur only towards the end of this year and till then whatever orders they have in hand will be produced and supplied. Smartphone companies plan far ahead for their models and the orders for the parts and components are placed months if not years in advance.

What Next?

As indicated, while one set of displays is shifting towards OLED, the others like television screens are turning to quantum dot technology. The construction of this display screen is such that it can emit light in a narrow spectrum and they are not very different from the conventional LCD panels. The quantum tube is an addition and it joins the LED lights in providing the backup to the display.

The report indicates that Samsung is yet to take a call on the future of the two production lines in China which will become idle by the year end. However, it may be the end of the road for LCD display panels, at least on smartphones.
