Even before the device has reached the hands of the users, Samsung has released a firmware update for the top-end Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Some users in Samsung’s home market South Korea may be able to see the update installed on their devices if they have got it. The rest of the world is yet to see the phone shipped to them. This update is said to improve certain camera functions, including an issue reported about the automatic flash. More significantly, this update file includes the Android security update of March 2020. That has raised some eyebrows since the month is yet to be born.

Update will Have Camera Improvements

As indicated, a major component of this firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra would be some performance improvements in the camera section. The details have not been shared on what prec isely are the camera improvements. The general sense was that the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with one of the best camera modules you can get. What is available is only a screenshot of the update information in the Korean language. The information is that there was an issue reported in the working of the auto flash, which also stands fixed with this update. The update file is fairly large at 418 MB. The relevant firmware version is G988NKSU1ATBR.

March Security Update Included

The practice followed so far in the case of the monthly Android security update patches is Google releases it first for its own Google Pixel devices before the other Android models start getting them. In this case of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, the update for the March security patch has been announced and sent OTA on February 25 itself. Google may send the updates for its Pixel devices only after the month of March is born, usually in the first week.

This information is only about the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Experts feel similar updates may be sent for the other two models, the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20+ as well. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has received some rave reviews and may be the most coveted smartphone in the market at present.

Google’s I/O Conference Won’t Happen This Year; No Plans for an Online Event Either

Published

on

Google Developer conference

When Google announced early March that it is canceling its I/O Developers’ Conference slated for May 2020, many thought it may possibly hold an online event. That has also been ruled out since and the company has scrapped the event completely off the calendar. This information has come through the I/O website that Google operates. The statement from the company refers to the orders by the local Bay Area counties that there will have to be a “shelter by place” arrangement throughout those areas. This means that people are virtually confined to their homes and only those with unavoidable reasons can go out. Even if Google had wanted to hold an online I/O Conference that would have meant at least a few dozen of its executives involved in taking care of the arrangements etc.

Health and Safety Emphasized

Google has said it values the health and safety of its employees, developers as well as the members of the local community and keeping that in view the I/O conference is being canceled. The only alternative is for the stakeholders to use the community forums and other platforms to exchange information.

An important aspect is that the market would be wanting to hear about is what will happen to the progress on a few areas that would have been part of the I/O Conference if it had not been canceled. The release of the Google Pixel 4a and 4a XL is a prime example. The company might have shared the beta version of its next Android version, the Android 11 or R. Would the company post it for download and review of the developers? Many brands had taken to the online launching of their smartphones after the MWC 2020 got canceled. Will Google attempt something like that with the Google Pixel 4a and 4a XL? You will have to wait and see. So far, online businesses appear to be carrying on and deliveries of smartphones are also being made. If these are also stopped, then there is no point in launching a new product at this juncture.

Many Events Cancelled

Google has postponed its other event Cloud Next as well. Other events to be canceled/postponed include the WWDC, Apple’s annual developers’ conference. Developers’ conferences held by Microsoft and Facebook have also met a similar fate. These are unusual circumstances for everyone, the government, companies, and the general public.

APK Teardown Reveals Google Pixel Phones May Bring 4K 60fps Video Recording Feature

Though Google’s Pixel range of smartphones has been largely appreciated for their photography capabilities, users have been a bit disappointed that the video recording feature has not received much attention from Google. That grievance may disappear soon as a leaked Google Camera 7.4 APK file shows the company working on the 4K video recording feature with the speed being limited to 60 frames per second (fps). Experts rush to mention that this may not be feasible with the soon-to-be-released Google Pixel 4a as its processor is not equipped to handle it.

Detected Through an APK Teardown

APK files are internal tools used in the development of various software modules and codes are written into them. You don’t get access to all APK files. In this particular case, one of the researchers came across an APK file relating to the camera section of Google Pixel phones called Google Camera

7.4. This file was then analyzed to know what is in it. That is when this entry “camcorder.4k60fps” was noticed. This is how it has now come to public knowledge that there is this 4K video recording mode that will become part of the camera function in the Google Pixel phones. The 60fps entry requires no elaboration. The only question that remains is which Google Pixel device or model will start having this facility.

Google Pixel 4aSpeculation on the Device will Continue

This interesting development has aroused curiosity among those who follow the news and they want to know how soon they can start using a Google Pixel device to record 4K videos. There are only two or three possibilities and these are in the form of pure speculation. One is the feature will be included in future devices like the Google Pixel 5 or even the Google Pixel 4a XL as we don’t know yet the processor to be fitted on them. The Google Pixel 4a with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC cannot handle it. The other is that Google may update some of the earlier models like the Google Pixel 3 and 3XL etc. for this feature. Some hints have been given that the Google Pixel 4 itself could be enabled with the 4K video recording feature through a Pixel Feature Drop.

Google Pixel 4a – Leaked Images of Promo Show a Starting Price of $399

Most of the rumors about the soon-to-be-launched Google Pixel 4a seem to be getting confirmed with each passing day. The latest to join the club is a series of images, which show billboards supposedly promoting the device. In terms of messaging, the billboards just say “The New Google Phone” and “starting at $399”. On top is the name of the model, Google Pixel 4a. So, you should be left with no confusion here. Interestingly, the predecessor device, the Google Pixel 3a retailed for the same price when it was launched in 2019.

Reiteration of the Specifications of Pixel 4a

As mentioned, the specifications of the Google Pixel 4a

have been speculated upon in the past few days through leaks and now more confirmations have come in. The budget version of the latest flagship from the company, the Google Pixel 4 will have a 5.81-inch display with a punch-hole display. The screen resolution is expected to be 1080×2340 pixels. Among expectations that Google may join other brands in lifting the screen refresh rate, the company has retained it at 60Hz.

The processor is going to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC and it will get 4GB RAM support. The internal storage will be 64GB and Android 10, the operating system.

The camera specifications are also very moderate with a single 12MP shooter in the rear and the front camera lodged inside the punch hole will be 8MP. Google is switching to the punch hole for the first time with this device. The rear panel has a fingerprint display.

The budget model obviously will not include the Soli Project radar chip which was introduced in Google Pixel 4. It is a part of the Motion Sense technology used for making changes in the phone for adjusting the volume or changing a music track.

The battery has 3,080mAh capacity. A 3.5mm jack is part of the provisions on the device. While all these details about the Google Pixel 4a have been revealed, there’s nothing on the Google Pixel 4a XL that will also be released along with it.

Starting Price at $399

This is one new information that has come through the latest leaks. As pointed out, the billboards have promo ads indicating the Google Pixel 4a will have a starting price of $399. This means that Google does not plan to hike the price of the Google Pixel 4a over the predecessor, the Pixel 3a.

We await the official announcement of the Google Pixel 4a soon.
