Just six months after Z2, Sony announced Sony Xperia Z3, which is yet to be released.

How much of an improvement has Sony made? And is it worth to upgrade to Z3? Stay with us.

Design and Display

The design of the Xperia Z3 follows the same principles and patterns as the Z2. The only difference is in the dimension of the phone, as the Z3 is leaner and lighter. The super slim Z3 has dimensions of 146 x 72 x 7.35, weighing 152 grams. Another significant upgrade is the IP68 certification, making the smartphone dust proof and water resistant up to 1 meter. The screen size is set at 5.2 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and pixel density of 424ppi. Users can operate the display with up to 10 fingers at the same time.

Hardware and Operating System

Sony has made slight improvements in the power section. The Z3 features Snapdragon 801 quad core processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz with 3 GB RAM memory. Users can store up to 32 GB on the device, and increase the storage memory for additional 128 GB thanks to a microSD slot.

The Xperia Z3 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, with built in skin from Sony. Some Sony themed applications are added to the operating system, including Xperia Transfer. With that application, users can transfer their contacts, photos and music from their old handsets. The key feature here is the DSEE HX technology and PS4 Remote Play. DSEE HX technology improves the quality of sound, while PS4 Remote Plays allows users to play PlayStation 4 games on their handset.

Sony has installed a new and improved camera in the Z3. The device features 20.7 MP rear facing camera armed with ISO 12800-sensitivity. This allows users to capture higher quality photos even in low light conditions. Another feature is the SteadyShot technology for video recording. Users can record videos up to 4K resolution with the rear facing camera, and up to 1080 with the front facing camera. The front facing camera is a 2.2-MP camera.

Z3 boasts 3100 mAh battery which should last two full days. According to company’s statistics, Z3 lasts 890 hours on standby and 14 hours of talk time. STAMINA mode is also available, making the phone even more durable. If users are low on battery, they can use the STAMINA mode to further stretch the life of their device.
