The time has come for Helium Comedy Club’s 2010 Philly’s Phunniest Competition!  This is the 5th annual competition to crown the funniest stand-up comedian in the city and there sure are a ton of worthy competitors.  Philadelphia is teeming with hundreds of fantastic comedians and quite a few of them could easily have success on a national level.  In fact, 2008 winner Kent Haines has gone on to perform on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and at the South Beach Comedy Festival.  This competition is a great opportunity for comedians of all levels and abilities to get on stage and possibly get attention on a bigger level.

The preliminary round begins June 13th at 7pm and they continue for every Sunday until August 22nd (there are no performances on July 4th or July 25th).  Each night you will see 16 Philadelphia comedians perform 4 1/2 to 6 minutes of original material.  A complete list of the comedians performing can be found here.  With the variety and quality of comedians each night, you are bound to find several performers who will tickle your fancy.  Winners will be determined through audience votes along with a panel of judges.  And the best part of all these shows is they cost only $10!  That’s 62 cents per comedian!  The semi-finals will be on August 29th and 30th and the finals will be on August 31st.  Go out to these shows to see the best of what Philadelphia has to offer at a fantastic price!

Helium Comedy Club is the city’s best stand-up comedy club.  It is located at 2031 Sansom Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.  Street parking is available in the area but can be hard to find.  There are several parking lots in the area that are reasonably priced.
