When Montreal unit Arcade Fire recently announced that their third LP, The Suburbs, would be released on August 3rd, you could hear worldwide the massive THUMP that the indie blogosphere made when hitting the ground from blacking out with joy. When everyone came to, a low whisper carried through the internet (because that’s how the internet works, through whispers) — would the band tour to support the album this summer?
The answer is, yes, of course they will tour to support the album this summer! With their debut LP, Funeral, topping many of those ubiquitous Best Album of the Decade lists this year, Arcade Fire remains one of the most beloved acts in all of indiedom. Their mega-earnest, hook-heavy anthems will now help them fill larger venues than ever before. Case in point: the band will play Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 6th. Why tell you about it now? Because for many indie fans, this show will be the hottest ticket all summer. In other words, Arcade Fire should have no problem selling out the Pavilion.
As if they needed help, they’ve also gone the extra mile and booked Spoon as their openers. Spoon’s been making some of the best music on the planet for almost two decades now, and their recent seventh (seventh!) LP, Transference, further solidifies their reputation as perhaps the most bankable and consistent band in America. I won’t go so far as to say the billing at this show should be reversed, but…suffice to say, you’ll get your money’s worth. Make sure to spend that money soon, or you’ll be out of luck when that “SOLD OUT” message flashes across your screen. Tickets are $32 for the lawn, $48.50 for pavilion seating.
