Mozilla Firefox Update to Version 53.0.2, Version 54.0beta

There are several ways to find out, and one of the easiest is to open the Firefox browser, click on the Help button and then About Firefox. A pop-up window will appear which you will show you the version number and a phrase that says Firefox is up to date. The latest version as of 5 May 2017 is Version 53.0.2.

What’s new in this version of Firefox?

For the desktop install, the update fixed one particular security concern – Use after free in ANGLE, which can lead to a potentially exploitable crash. It also fixed form validation errors and date picker pan.

For the Android release, the new Firefox version fixed several bugs that caused problems with Android integration, error displaying of the right-to-left search bar, and video corruption.

In the works is the beta version of Firefox 54. Version 54.0beta was first offered on 21 April 2017 to beta channel users. When installed on the desktop, it will change how information of downloaded items will be displayed in the download panel. It will be presented with more details and clarity. A Mobile Bookmarks folder will also be added in the drop-down list from the toolbar, which will store all bookmarks created on mobile devices.

When installed on mobile devices running Android, Firefox 54.0beta will display correctly file names that are preserved on upload. It will also fix the right to left language formatting. Bookmark sync performance was also improved, as well as audio and video playback.

With all these bugs and fixes, you should update to the latest version. And if you can’t wait for Firefox 54 to be released to the public, sign up as a beta user.

How to update Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox browser. If an update is set automatically, Firefox will update to the latest version before it will fully open.
  2. If this is not the case, click on Help > About Firefox.
  3. Click on the Update button on the pop-up window that will appear.
  4. Follow the on-screen instruction to download and install.

You may need to restart Firefox for the new update to activate. Afterward, you can then customize settings according to your preferences including disabling web notifications.
