The US carrier Verizon has released the latest software update to the Motorola Moto e5 Play phones on its platform. Along with this, the subscribers with the same device on the carrier’s prepaid plans also receive the firmware update.

First Update for this Phone

The Motorola Moto e5 Play is receiving its first update. The device was launched in July 2018 and the software update version is ODPS27.91-167-1. The corresponding Android security patch for this device is the December update released for the phone. And the update itself is looking at just improving the security environment on the device. There appears to be no issue raised with the performance of the phone since no mention has been made in the Verizon update released yesterday. The Motorola Moto e5 Play phones on Verizon’s prepaid plans have had some updates earlier and the latest software update version ODPS27.91-121-4 is its 4th. It had received its last update in October 2018.

Moto’s Entry Level Phone

This particular device, the Moto e5 Play, should be considered an entry-level smartphone with its price being below $100. The phone comes with a 5.2-inch display. Under the hood, the phone is fitted with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC processor and 2 GB RAM. The onboard storage is 16 GB and the user can add a microSD card in the slot provided and expand the memory by another 256 GB. The two cameras should be considered ordinary as well with the rear one at 8 MP and the front camera at 5 MP. A removable 2800 mAh battery powers the device.

The Moto e5 Play has the Android Oreo operating system and Motorola does not appear to have any plans to upgrade this phone to the latest Android Pie anytime soon. At least the phone is not included in the list on the company’s official site that has the Android Pie upgrade schedule. The low storage level may be one of the reasons for this, but you never know. Motorola can spring a surprise or two.

If you own one of these devices, await the OTA update and follow the instructions.
