Motorola’s newest addition to its critically acclaimed and successful G series of smartphones, the Motorola G8 series, is all set to launch in a few hours in Brazil. Keeping up with its ongoing tradition, Motorola will release 3 different models in the G8 series too – the Moto G8, Moto G8 Plus, and the Moto G8 Play. As is the custom with almost every Motorola phone, several bits of information about the G8 phones have been leaked online before the official launch by the brand.

Just last week, we saw various renders of the G8 Play and the G8 Plus online which revealed the upcoming phones’ quad-cam setups and the tear-drop notch displays. The latest leak on the upcoming G8 Plus was spotted yesterday which showed its Geekbench benchmark scores and a few specs.

Geekbench Measures

The Geekbench benchmark for the phone shows the model name Motorola Moto G8 Plus, as seen below. The motherboard on the phone is labeled “trinket”, which means the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, which was earlier revealed to be on the G8 phone. It’s noteworthy that the G7 Plus came with a Snapdragon 636 SoC, which makes the G8 Plus (If, it is indeed powered by Snapdragon 665 SoC) a great upgrade in terms of performance.

The benchmarks also show that the phone has a 4GB RAM, and is running on Android 9.0 as of 23rd October. This seems a little strange, because Motorola Phones are usually some of the first phones to come out with the current latest android version every year. But in any case, users should expect to receive Android 10 updates very soon, given Motorola’s close affinity with Google’s Android One program.

As of now, the G8 Plus is the only model from the G8 series which has been benchmarked yet. It’s very much likely that we won’t be seeing any more models’ benchmarks ahead of release because the launch is set to be in a few hours from now. Also, quite a few users have remarked online that the phone’s Geekbench scores don’t look as high as expected, which is because of the latest Geekbench version v5.0.2.

Moto G8 specs

As can be seen from the renders above leaked by tipster Evan Blass, the Moto G8 Plus and G8 Play models look almost identical on the front side. However, the phones are quite different on the rear side. The G8 Plus has got a vertical triple-camera setup, whereas the G8 Play comes with a dual-camera setup.

There is no concrete information about the sensors in these cameras yet, but rumors on the internet suggest a 48MP main sensor, coupled with a 16MP wide-angle sensor, as well as a 5MP depth sensor. Some eagle-eyed viewers also spotted a laser auto-focus sensor in the render. Other possible features are a 6.3-inch display, a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB Type-C fast charging port powered by Motorola’s TurboCharger, Snapdragon 665 octa-core SoC + 4GB RAM, and a big fat 4,000mAh battery.
