Back when Moto G4 Plus was released, one of its main marketing points was the promise that the phone will receive two important Android updates: N and O. That was a while ago, but Moto G4 Plus owners did not forget about it, and many of them actually bought this phone thinking that they will receive the latest Android updates. However, Motorola published a list with all the devices that are going to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update, and this phone was not listed.
Soon after the list was published, G4 owners began to complain about the absence of their phone from the list. Instead of trying to fix the mistake, Motorola changed a G4 infographic, erasing the Oreo mention. Obviously, this made users even more upset.
Motorola is finally ready to honor its promise
In order to put an end to this controversy, the company issued a statement that blamed the marketing materials. Motorola said that it will add the Oreo update, but only on Moto G4 Plus, since it is the only device that promised the upgrade. However, users will have to wait more for Oreo, since Motorola mentioned that this was not a planned upgrade and it will require more time: “It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus.
This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.”
