Mortal Kombat 11: Everything We Know So Far

Mortal Kombat 11: Everything We Know So Far

It is an upcoming fighting video game from NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. It is one of the games that include some brutal fighting, and is slated to make a comeback for another round of terror and fatal fighting. NetherRealm Studios has had a record of steady releases since the inception of the game with Injustice franchises and Mortal Kombat. After the release of Injustice 2 in 2017, Mortal Kombat 11 is finally expecting the release on April 23, 2019, on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and the first time for the developer also in Nintendo Switch.

If you are ready to put money through an early pre-order of Mortal Kombat 11, the developer will shower on you with an additional character, the unfair and the bad boss Shao Kahn and access to beta on PS4 and Xbox One starting from March 28. On the other hand, if you want the comprehensive Mortal 11 Kollector’s Edition, you will get the game, a smart replica of Scorpion’s yellow mask, which is iconic and a season of pass fighters in the Kombat Pack. These are some of the pre-ordering incentives, but you have got to learn about the caveats before deciding to move ahead.

Much awaited game

The fans of this all-time favorite brawler from the ’90s are, no wonder, euphoric about the upcoming release. After receiving the much-awaited investigation in 2011, Mortal Kombat has been delivering hit after hit and the new version Mortal Kombat 11 is all set to rock the scene with spline-chilling violence and takes it to a new level. After the overwhelming success of Injustice 2, the anticipation of the gamers is positive about MK11 and all eyes are set on the game right now as there are some serious contenders the game is going to face.

Mortal Kombat 11 time travel

Time travel dominates Mortal Kombat 11

The primary attraction of MK11 is all about beating the worthlessness of each other as the games of Mortal Kombat are always focused on themselves and around the cathartic light-heartedness to bring ruthless and intense suffering on to the opponent. However, the scenario has undergone some changes during the recent years as the co-creator of the series Ed Boon and the developers, NetherRealm Studios have started focusing on the substance of the story in their games. The game Mortal Kombat is based on several dimension changes within the realm of the Earth and constantly facing new and frightening attacks from the other realms of the Hell. With the arrival of the new game Mortal Kombat 11, there is a big emphasis on time travel.

The action in MK11 begins immediately after the events of Mortal Kombat 9 as the previous game was moved forward to several years into the future. In the present series of Mortal Combat 11, Kronica is the icy antagonist who is also unhappy about the past events and is keen to bring stability to different realms with a new start. So, leveling off the field of play and putting every incident of the past out of the sight is one way the characters of different eras of Mortal Kombat are ready to come together once again. MK11 allows the players to play as the classic versions of their preferred fighters, the evil, bad, and the forgotten characters, the updated iterations, and just about everything the brawlers can remember. Does that mean the sunglass-clad and the shirtless era of Johny Cage? We are yet to know.

Mortal Kombat11 Roster

Mortal Kombat 11 is expected to feature new and the old characters who are to make a comeback and some of the prominent ones that have been there from the beginning such as Raiden, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. Some of the favorites of the fans such as Skarlet and Baraka who were not to be seen in the previous game are going to come back in MK11. Apart from this, you are going to come across two characters that are going to debut in the game, Kronica and Geras.

The developers have announced the comeback of two other characters in Mortal Kombat 11, Kabal who was seen in Mortal Kombat 3 and Kano who appeared in Mortal Kombat. A hint towards the return of some of the other characters such as Johny Cage, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao have not been confirmed by NetherRealm.

The debutant Geras is supposed to be fighting in Mortal Kombat 11 utilizing the “time-control abilities” according to Ed Boon. Furthermore, he is shown to have the potential to summon some of the objects made from sand and stone in the battle and utilize the special powers to teleport himself for trapping the enemies. Geras can also stop the time to return to the past and bring the enemies to punch them with fists that are covered with rocks. The person for which Geras fights in MK11 is the other debutant Kronica who was teased in the December trailer of Mortal Kombat 11. According to Boon, Kronica has always been the major driving factor of Mortal Kombat, and when Raiden changes the timeline by killing Shinnok, in Mortal Kombat 10, she had to be compelling enough to intervene. The developers of MK11 have not yet confirmed whether Kronica is to remain the playable character, although it is true that she is the boss or the lead female character in the Mortal Kombat series; so, it cannot be ruled out.

In the initial schedule of Mortal Kombat 11, there are about 25 playable characters according to the character select screen not to leave Shao Kahn, the pre-order additional character.

Features of the fighters

The fighters in Mortal Kombat 11 are customized based on what the NetherRealm developed for Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X.  As far as the previous games of the developers are concerned, there were several predetermined variations of fighting, but MK11 provides the players with the opportunity to customize the characters more vividly. For instance, in the case of Scorpion, the players get the freedom to choose the mask, spear, and sword with which they want to equip and each one of them can be enhanced with the help of socketed items. Furthermore, the players can choose the special abilities that are to be taken to the battle for more customization. Apart from this, do not miss out the “Kosmetic” elements with options such as the cinematic introductions, victory screens, fatalities, and the character skin. They can also choose to name the characters they customize.

Introduction of fatal blow in Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat is loved for its high-impact, ruthless, and fighting game mechanics, and MK11 is producing a version of the game that is as interesting and terrifying as the most iconic titles in the franchise. After its disappointing experiments in the platforms of 2000s with games such as Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monksand Mortal Kombat Mythologies, it appears that NetherRealm won’t be going too far from its core gameplay, which is going to appear soon.

The greatest attraction in MK11 seems to be character customization just like in Injustice 2. According to NetherRealm “Custom Character Variations” will allow you to have “unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own.” Cosmetic choices are available for all fighters, and the characters are equipped with three gear slots, so that definitely hints that there is going to be some degree of weapon changing, or to a certain extent move-specific customization.

Also primary to the game mechanics is the new “Fatal Blow” feature, that frightening zoom-in, X-ray thing you’ve seen in several gameplay trailers. MK11 will let you turn the tide on opponents by leveling the harsh blows as soon as your health meter drops to 30 percent. However, it might upset some of those younger brothers.

The combat in Mortal Kombat 11

NetherRealm is changing the Mortal Kombat fighting formula by adjusting and rethinking a few mechanics dating back to Mortal Kombat 9. The meter that was used to be shared for moves such as the X-ray moves, combo-interrupting Breaker, and enhanced attacks have been segmented into two. However, the meter appears in the bottom right and left corners, with the horizontal portion specially kept for offensive moves and the vertical portion is used for defensive moves.

The X-ray moves seem to have transformed into what NetherRealm is referring to Fatal Blows. As we have already mentioned that when a player’s health meter drops below thirty percent, they can access the Fatal Blow, a bad combo that they can unravel by pressing two shoulder buttons at once. A Fatal Blow can only be executed once in every game and not certainly once in the round, so players will have to use it wisely. Moreover, if a player uses a Fatal Blow and it fails to connect, the move might go for a long period of cool down before they can use it again strategically.

NetherRealm is also planning to add Crushing Blows, another terrible move type that appears similar to a bone-breaking X-ray attack. Players will use Crushing Blows when they meet certain conditions of attacks and are good enough to continue with the same move three times in a row, while facing a high attack, or fooling the opponent into stopping in a certain way may result in the Crushing Blow. When it comes to Geras, one of his moves can become a Crushing Blow if it is performed towards the end of a combo string and his opponent prevents it while crouching. Each character will have five to six moves that might become Crushing Blows, which can cause a great amount of damage. Apart from causing extra damage, they may also make the opponents pop up into the air or stand back immediately.

Mortal Kombat 11 Story

Starting from the events of the rebooted Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 11 is going to feature Raiden, who is still in his “Dark” form since the time he went back to alter the events of the three original games. It is most likely that the previous events are going to merge into existing timeline events, according to an interview held with Ed Boon that he gave to the PlayStation Blog.

Characters will supposedly meet several versions of themselves, including Liu Kang, and there will be unwanted consequences from the perspective of time manipulation. As mentioned before, Kronika plays a major role in the story and joins the head of Shinnok after he is ruthlessly decapitated by Raiden. Boon referred to her as the “boss of bosses,” working in seclusion to change the events of every game until this point. Following the defeat of Shinnok, it is Kronika who decides to go back to time and start the history again. Friends and enemies decide to join hands to take the right action and tackle the immediate threat.

The game is all set to hit on April 23 and until then the lovers of this gory and harsh game can give shape to their imaginations until the time of play.
