OnePlus handsets and their OxygenOS are starting to gain more and more fans and earn a favorable reputation on the market. However recent news presented a huge weak spot for the App Locker feature. This can prove to be a major setback for the OS and it is something that should be fixed as soon as possible.
One recent video ”OxygenOS 4.5.8 App Locker Bypass” demonstrated how this feature can be easily bypassed, despite the fact that it was supposed to be a secure and fast method to protect your phone.
Bypassing The App Locker
In the video, the app lock feature is used to lock the XDA Feed. At first, the person in the video is prompted to enter his password when attempting to open App Locker, but after tapping an app icon for an app called “OnePlus App Locker Bypass”, the App Locker settings page opens up, allowing him to disable the password for any protected apps.
The user explained that anyone is able to use this technique and the only requirements are: any type of application that can launch activities and a launcher installed (Nova Launcher is recommended). If you have these, there are two easy steps if you wish to bypass the Locker:
- Find “App Locker” under “Dashboard” and then add an activity shortcut to it
- Tap the shortcut and you will access the settings for the App Locker without any password required
A fix for that is on its way
Apparently, OxygenOS officials are aware about this problem and they declared the following: “We are aware of this issue, and we will be fixing it in an upcoming OTA.”. Luckily, this is a minor security issue and OnePlus users can relax knowing that it will be fixed very soon.
