LG has publicly announced the development of an indigenous artificial intelligence chip for its smart home products. The announcement has come, keeping in mind the diminishing growth in the mobile segment of the company. The move has been made to keep the company afloat in the world market and maintain its market share in the tech industry.
The chip is the result of the horizontal integration, by cutting down on the suppliers like ARM, Nvidia and Intel. This will enable the organization to bring in more customization and incur lesser expenditure in the foreseeable future.
The functionality of the Artificial Intelligence Chip
The chip has been embedded with the organization’s Neural Engine, subjected to the deep learning algorithms. The chip will be installed in the washing machines, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and refrigerators.
The tech giant stated the chip enables the devices to recognize locations, places, objects and people in videos. Apart from that, it will also be able to create a differentiation between, multiple speakers, sounds and noises.
On the device, AI capabilities will allow data protection, with the help of a separate hardware-implemented security zone for personal data. The gadgets can work without an internet connection, with the help of on-device processing.

LG is not alone in the AI Race
LG is not a pioneer in the usage of Artificial Intelligence technology. Apple, Facebook and Amazon are already in the race. They are said to be working on the Machine Learning and the Artificial Intelligence technologies of their own. However, the one thing that makes LG standout is their smart home devices customization.
Despite a drop in the organization’s mobile segment, LG declared an annual profit of 2.4 billion dollars last year. With the highest profit accumulation from the home appliances segment. The home appliances segment also observed the highest quarter sales to date. With considerable sales growth and margin, the organization can clearly opt for automation especially in the segment of home appliances and home entertainment, with respect to artificial intelligence.
