Launch of Xiaomi Cereus or Redmi 6A or Redmi 5X? Expert Opinions Divided!

Xiaomi will be launching a model in China on the 25th of April when it is expected to announce the Xiaomi Mi 6X which is also known as the Mi A2 phone. GeekBench listings have already revealed some of the specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6X.

There could be a new model released along with Mi 6X and that could be a device which has the code name ‘Cereus’. Xiaomi Cereus has recently made appeared in GeekBench and from the specs, it is clear that it is an entry-level phone and could be nothing but the Redmi 6A. The conclusion is based on the details seen in the benchmark listings of GeekBench.

Latest Releases

We are already into the 4th month of this year 2018. Xiaomi has introduced several devices in many categories this year. For instance, the Redmi Note 5 is in the budget range; the flagship Mi Mix 2S, which is a bezel-less model; and the Black Shark phone. Most fans are just waiting for the release of the Mi 7. However, before that, Xiaomi seems to be ready to offer a few more devices.

Xiaomi Cereus Geekbench

Details of Xiaomi Cereus

According to the listing on GeekBench, it is seen that the Xiaomi Cereus will be powered by the octa-core, MT6765 processor. This also goes by the name of Helio P40. It will clock at the speed of 2.0 GHz and the Xiaomi Cereus will come with a RAM of 3 GB. This smartphone is probably the successor to the MT6750/MT6735 series.

The scores provided by GeekBench for the said device show 745 points in case of the single core and 3563 points for multi-core performance. The numbers are very similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor.

According to the listing, the Xiaomi Cereus will run Android 8.1 Oreo, along with the MIUI 9 running on top. Android 8.1 will be available out of the box.

Information on Chipset

Another information about the chipset on the Xiaomi Cereus is that the processor will be in the 12 nm mode, which is similar to the Helio P60. This implies that the processor on the Xiaomi Cereus will be more efficient and perform better when compared to the 14 nm of the Snapdragon 450.

All of the above information goes to show that the upcoming smartphone from Xiaomi will be a budget one. The biggest question, however, is what this device would be called, as the Geekbench listing does not show any model number or name.

There are no other details with respect to the size of the phone, the camera, the sensors and so on. As such, it is quite difficult to say whether the Xiaomi Cereus model is the Redmi 5, the Redmi 5A, Redmi 6 or the 6A.

It might also make sense that the Xiaomi Cereus is actually the Redmi 5X. The Redmi 4X had been released last year in the month of May and this new device is showing up exactly one year later, so it could very well be the Redmi 5X. Again, there are not too many details about the Redmi 6A, as the Redmi 5A was only released in December 2017. It is probably too early for a successor to the Redmi 5A.
