Back on August 25 Google announced that users will be able to add videos of locations on Maps. Previously the app allowed you to share only photos. Now Google Maps finally rolled out this feature and we were able to take a good look at it. It is a great improvement that will allow users to learn more about their location.
This feature is only available on Android devices for now
It appears that Android users are the first ones to get their hands on the video feature. And this comes as no surprise, considering the fact that both Google Maps and Android are Google products. And you are allowed to add a new video only if you are a Local Guide. Additionally, each video will be rewarded with 7 Local Guide points.
Right now, only Android users can publish videos but Google declared that “you can see videos on Google Search results for places in a web browser.” Therefore, you will be able to watch videos of various locations from any device, but you won’t be able to upload some of your own for now.
Surely this Google Maps update will roll out for other devices soon enough.
How to record or upload videos
Publishing a video is just like publishing a picture. In fact, you will need to follow the same steps. If you want to upload a video that has already been recorded you need to search for the location and then tap “Add a photo”, select the “Folder option and pick the video. You should know that these videos can play for 30 seconds.
If you want to record a clip on the spot you have to follow the same steps, but after you tap “Add a photo” hold down the camera capture button to record a video. Recorded videos can only last 10 seconds.
