Killer Instinct Is Coming: System Requirements

Killer Instinct, one of the fighting games that is not Street Fighter (Yes, this type exists, even if it is rare), is about to be launched on PC. Microsoft announces that it will be available starting on March 29 and it will include all the content that will be present on the Xbox One version.

With this occasion, the system requirements were made public.

They are:

MINIMUM

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-750 @ 2.67 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 GHz
  • MEMORY: 4 GB RAM
  • GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 or AMD Radeon HD 5850
  • DIRECTX: Version 11
  • NETWORK: Broadband Internet connection

RECOMMENDED

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.4GHz or AMD FX-4300 @ 3.8 GHz
  • MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
  • GRAPHICS: GeForce GTX 670 or Radeon HD 7950
  • DIRECTX: Version 11
  • NETWORK: Broadband Internet connection

There are two very important aspects in these system requirements listings. The first is that the game only requires DirectX 11, and still require Windows 10. This situation evokes far too much the Windows Vista – Halo 2, and might be a limitation which restricts the access to those who refuse to upgrade to the new OS, even if it doesn’t cost anything to do it. So you can expect it to be available only in the Windows Store.

The second important thing to note is that the recommended requirements indicate an AMD FX-4300, which is excessively cheap compared to a Haswell i5. This is a bizarre situation, and we could have one of those rare cases in which a game was coded in a way to utilize the Bulldozer architecture, for better performance. That or the game largely depends on the GPU, and basically would run smoothly even on an i3.

I also have some not-so-good news, the game is ported by Iron Galaxy, those who have severely maltreated Batman Arkham Knight. But at least, Killer Instinct will be free.
