Apple has made an announcement that it is arranging for free replacement of the Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. The company has posted a support document on its website in which the details of the issues faced by the users are explained. Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will be able to offer the replacement if the customers took their phones and the faulty Smart Battery Cases.
Information on the Fault Detected
The description in this post says the Smart Battery Cases meant to wirelessly charge these iPhones have been found to be defective. The users may observe that the case is either not charging at all or even if charging, it would be happening intermittently. This may be noticed by the user once they connect the battery case to a power source, at their home or office, using a lightning connector. The note further states that based on the information available to the company, it finds it difficult to confirm if the same phenomenon occurs when the wireless charging mode is inaction or not.
The Smart Battery Case acts as an intermediary. In the normal course, when plugged in with the iPhone in it, the iPhone will first get charged up fully and then the battery fitted inside the Smart Battery Case will receive the charge. Later, when the iPhone loses battery level, the Smart Battery Case will charge the iPhone’s battery to the extent its battery has power left.
If you own any of these three devices, the iPhone XS, XS Max or XR with the Smart Battery Case and if you have observed this defect of the case not charging, you are eligible for a free replacement of the Smart Battery Case. As mentioned, Apple has made the arrangements at its Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to facilitate this exchange.
The issue, according to Apple, is relevant to the devices produced between January and October 2019. The company believes not all customers are facing the issue and it has no idea how many Smart Battery Cases are reported defective.
