Which of the Apple’s products are compatible with the update to iOS 11? The full list of the Apple devices found below

Apple has presented us at WWDC 2017 the update to iOS 11, and with the reveal of the new mobile operating system, came the announcement concerning which iPhones, iPods and iPads will be able to install it when it will be released in autumn. This will also include which devices can install the different beta versions of iOS 11.

iPhone X and iPad Y are not allowed to install the new version of the iOS, but Apple isn’t trying to be selfish. It is just an acknowledgement that the hardware gets slower as the years pass and the software is more and more demanding for devices: so for a phone that was released five years ago, it won’t be able to withstand the latest software from now.

In the past, there were phones that could barely install the new OS and struggle to run it properly, having difficulties and running slower than its previous version of iOS.

This year, the unluckiest phones and devices are iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPad4. These Apple products won’t be able to install and run the iOS 11.

The following is a list with every Apple devices that support iOS 11:

  • iPad Air 1, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (12.9, 2015), iPad Pro (9.7), iPad 2017, iPad Pro (10.5), iPad Pro (12.9, 2017)
  • iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4
  • iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPod touch (sixth generation)

Any devices after iPad Air 1, a sixth generation iPod touch, iPad mini 2 or iPhone 5s that are later versions, can run safely the iOS 11, and for free nonetheless, when it will be launched in the autumn.

The following compares with the list of devices which are compatible with iOS 10:

  • iPad 4, iPad Air 1, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch
  • iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4
  • iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE
  • iPod touch (sixth generation)
