When it’s a rumor about Apple, you can’t keep Mink-Chi Kuo away. The Apple insider and analyst has now made a few more comments on this budget segment iPhone widely believed to be released in the first quarter of 2020. One major prediction he has made is that the device will sell at least 20 million units in the upcoming year and if stretched, this figure can go up to 30 million.
Very Favorable Market Conditions for the iPhone SE2
The basis for Kuo’s analysis and prediction comes out of a combination of factors in the market. The pricing factor is certainly a key element in the calculations. It has been already seen that just a $50 reduction in the price of the iPhone 11 from its predecessor, the iPhone XR, got it enhanced volumes of sales. If Apple does go with the $399 price predicted by Kuo, it will be a game-changer. More importantly, some of the price-sensitive markets like China and India with large consumer bases may grab the opportunity to own an Apple device.
The other aspect being pointed out is that the current owners of iPhone models like the iPhone 6 and 6s may want to upgrade so that they can stay within the latest iOS ecosystem with all the attendant features and facilities. Apple may itself take the step of withdrawing its iPhone 8 which retails at $449 and replace it by the new iPhone SE2. The rumors already suggest that the design and form factor of the iPhone SE2 will resemble that of the iPhone 8. When you add all these aspects together, you may start feeling that Ming-Chi Kuo could have got it right. The 20 million to 30 million prediction may turn out to be practically achievable.
Most Rumored Specifications Recalled
The possible specifications that the iPhone SE2 or whatever moniker Apple decides to launch the phone with will sport have been shared in rumors many times. The display is likely to be 4.7inches; the processor will be the A13 Bionic chipset and the RAM 3GB. The A13 is the same processor seen on the latest iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. A new addition to these rumors on the specifications in Kuo’s claim is that the motherboard to be used in the iPhone SE 2 will be made of a 10-layer substrate-like PCB (SLP). SLP is considered a more economical alternative than the ones currently used in the iPhone 11 series.
