iPhone 8 Facial Recognition Will Most Likely Work with Apple Pay

Although we don’t even have an official release date yet, the entire tech side of the Internet is currently going completely insane after the iPhone 8. Message boards, specialty forums and dedicated subReddits are currently exploding with rumors, predictions, assumptions and anything of the sort, and they all have one common denominator: the iPhone 8, of course. However, not even the most anticipative analyst could have prepared us for this new info. Keep reading to find out what has been leaked about the iPhone 8 accidentally.

HomePod Firmware Leak

Rumors of the iPhone 8 having a facial recognition system have been long in the making, and a recent HomePod Firmware leak confirmed it for us. And now HomePod is back at it again, because we think that it just told us what one of the many uses of that system will be. According to a string of the com.apple.passbook.payment variety that a developer we shall refer to as r_idn discovered, it seems that facial recognition on the iPhone 8 might be used for payment verification data.

Yes, you read that right. Now cue the conspiracy theorists’ arguments that Apple is the Illuminati and the iPhone is made out of fragments of reptilian souls or whatever those cooks are saying these days. But seriously now, the iPhone 8 might allow its users to verify the payments they make through Apple Pay by providing a quick facial scan. This is a great way to eliminate financial fraud, but it also raises a few privacy questions.

However, they’ve already got our fingerprints, so what harm can some facial features do? We’ll have to wait to find out. As we said before, there is still now word on the official release, but maybe we’ll get a leak of that soon as well.
