iOS 11 New AR Features Coming With Impressive Design

It’s no secret that Apple is working long and hard on optimizing iOS 11 for its release this fall. One of the most anticipated features that the new version of their in-house operating system will bring is augmented reality. This will be made possible by ARKit, an augmented reality platform that Apple designed where developers can create AR apps. The newest AR feature that has been discovered on iOS 11 looks like something out of a Godzilla flick. Keep reading to find out what it is.

Stomp Over Cities

By using the ‘Flyover’ feature in Apple Maps with integrated AR support, iOS 11 beta users can pretend they’re Godzilla and stomp over a tiny city. One developer called Felix Lapalme discovered this new feature in iOS beta 2 (a.k.a. the second beta developer preview of the operating system), but it’s reportedly present in the public beta as well.

Lapalme posted a video of himself using the new feature, and in it he chose to stomp over a tiny replica of the Canadian city of Montreal. Even though this function could also be ensured by the iPhone’s gyro sensor, Lapalme is convinced that augmented reality and the ARKit platform have something to do with it as well.

If you want to try out this feature, as well as other augmented reality goodies and other new stuff, you can access the public beta preview of iOS 11 by enrolling in the public beta testing program hosted by Apple. In order to do so, all you need is to provide your Apple ID and password. And if the beta of iOS 11 is too unstable to your liking, you can always revert back to the current version of iOS 10, namely iOS 10.3.2 or 10.3.3. Have fun!
