iOS 10.3.2 Is Here: Should You Upgrade or Wait for the Jailbreak?

Apple has released iOS 10.3.2 in May 15, 2017, giving iOS users access to the much-awaited update. While a lot of people embraced the new firmware, many jailbreaking fans are hesitating and finding themselves asking: should I upgrade to the latest version or wait for Pangu’s iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak tool?

UPGRADE NOW

One of the biggest reasons to update to iOS 10.3.2 is the security improvements it brings. Apple states that the latest firmware comes with “bug fixes and improves the security of your iPhone or iPad” and even lists the 23 exploit categories that the update covers. Two of the biggest problems are related to iBooks: one allows a malicious ebook to “open arbitrary websites without user permission”, while the other allows applications to “execute arbitrary code with root privileges”.

The bottom line: it’s advisable to update your device to iOS 10.3.2 ASAP to prevent malware infections.

UPGRADE LATER

Last month, Pangu revealed during an event that they have jailbroken an iPhone 7 running on iOS 10.3.1 — without exactly saying when they will release a jailbreaking tool for it to the public. However, tech experts assume that the renowned Chinese jailbreaking group will rollout the iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak after Apple releases 10.3.2. This way, they can confirm if the latest firmware has patched up the exploit they used for the jailbreak or not; if all is clear, they’ll move ahead and make the tool available for everyone.

Apple usually stops signing older firmware a week after the newest version comes out. Since iOS 10.3.2 was released in May 15, we can expect to see Pangu’s jailbreak before May 22 arrives — just before Apple stops signing iOS 10.3.1. If you can wait, it’s advisable to give it a week or so before you update to iOS 10.3.2, just to see if Pangu will indeed rollout their jailbreaking tool or not. (Note: it’s also possible that Pangu will release the jailbreak after May 22.)

Another reason to delay updating: as of this writing, it’s not yet clear if iOS 10.3.2 comes with serious bugs. If you’re worried about this, it’s best to wait a couple of days to hear feedback from other users and know if the update has issues that can affect your device’s performance.

IT’S UP TO YOU

Only you can decide what to do with your iOS device. Weigh the pros and cons to know if you should update to iOS 10.3.2 now or not.
