Apple is making the necessary preparations to give the iPhone 14 series a grand launch this year. Though Apple has maintained a stoic silence on the kind of features this upcoming smartphone series will have, a bunch of rumors and leaks have given fans a lot of information to chew on.

According to a report published in Bloomberg, instead of releasing a mini version of the iPhone, Apple would opt for a Max-sized model. However, just like the last couple of years, Apple plans to come out with four models. Apart from the regular-sized model, there will be a new iPhone 14 Max and two Pro models. This implies that the iPhone 13 mini could well be the last mini model manufactured by the Cupertino-based tech giant.

While the iPhone 13 series featured a minor design upgrade, the iPhone 14 series is said to boast of a ‘complete redesign’. Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned Apple analyst, had stated that it would be wise for Apple not to include the popular notch that the company brought to the fore with the release of the iPhone X in 2017. As per his speculations, the iPhone 14 Pro could be the first-ever iPhone to feature a hole-punch camera cutout, instead of a notch, for the front camera.

In September 2021, leaker Jon Prosser had shared renders that offered a glimpse of the kind of design the iPhone 14 would have. The designs released by him featured a massive iPhone 14 with thick chassis, flush rear cameras and Titanium sidebands.

The base and Pro models of the iPhone 14 are expected to have a 6.06-inch display screen offering a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels. The Max and Pro Max variants, on the other hand, would feature 6.68-inch display screens with a resolution of 2778 x 1284 pixels. The Pro Max could feature an LTPO or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide display screen.

As per Kuo, the iPhone 14 series will have a 48MP primary sensor. If this turns out to be true, it will be a massive upgrade for Apple whose smartphones, till recently, had a 12MP primary sensor. This also suggests that the new phones will use pixel binning, an innovative technology that enables the device to group multiple pixels together and make them function as one unit. When this happens, the camera offers better low-light performance.
