Huawei Plans a Paris Launch for its Huawei P40 in March 2020

Huawei P40

This is no rumor but an official confirmation directly by a senior Huawei executive. Interestingly, he made this announcement in China while speaking with journalists from France. The Huawei P40 will be the flagship smartphone for Huawei and the successor to the Huawei P30 and the P30 Pro. Top smartphone companies choose to launch their new models in major cities like New York and London. Huawei has chosen Paris. The Chinese major has been having issues with the US government and is trying to capture the European market in a big way. The choice of Paris for the launch of the Huawei P40 is therefore not surprising.

New Features Promised

The official from Huawei further shared with the media that the Huawei P40 will come with some ‘never seen before’ design, without elaborating on what that is supposed to mean. The camera section will certainly be one of the key highlights of the device. There is confirmation that the operating system will be Android 10 with its user interface EMUI as the skin. It is also expected that the Huawei P40 Pro model will be released at the same event or separately.

The Pressure to Use Its Own OS Not Apparent

As mentioned, there is an ongoing tussle for Huawei with the US market as it was denied the use of components and technology from US companies. That meant the Huawei smartphones running on Android OS won’t receive updates from Google. The Chinese company then developed its own operating system, the Harmony OS. There has been some relaxation of late on the restrictions imposed by the US government, which gives the Chinese company the freedom to launch the Huawei P40 with Android 10 OS.

The other interesting bit of information revealed by this Huawei official is that the new device will include the Huawei Mobile Services. This is the equivalent of the Play Store in the Android devices or the App Store in the iOS devices. Huawei had developed this as well to avert the US sanctions. Huawei is hoping that it can attract developers to create apps to be used on its platform.
