Huawei P20, P20 Pro, Honor 10, Honor Play and Honor View 10 get Android Pie with EMUI 9.0 Update

The Chinese major Huawei has announced the release of software updates for its customers across the Asia Pacific region. The models included in this batch for updates include the Huawei P20, P20 Pro, Honor Play, Honor 10 and the Honor View 10. Almost all these devices are being upgraded to the latest Android Pie or version 9.0 accompanied by its updated EMUI 9.0 OS.

The phone models and the update versions are as follows:

Model Update Version
Huawei P20 Pro CLT-L29 8.1.0.158(C636)
Huawei P20 EML-L29 8.1.0.159(C636)
Honor Play COR-L29 8.2.0.133(C636GT)
Honor 10 BKL-L09 8.0.0.173(C636)
Honor View 10 BKL-L09 8.0.0.173(C636)

In all these cases the phones have an alternate ID either for use internally by Huawei and/or for the trade. These are related in the version numbers like CLT-L29, COR-L29 and so on.

Note that wherever the devices listed above were loaded with the Android Oreo and EMUI 8 have now been upgraded to the next higher version, in terms of the stock OS and the UI. These models are known by the names indicated therein in the Asia Pacific region. The region is important for Huawei since its main brand and the Honor sub-brand sell large volumes particularly in markets like India. Like the other Chinese smartphone makers, Huawei uses different model names for the same device in China and the other markets. The major difference could be in the processor. Huawei tries to push its Kirin processors in the domestic and other price-sensitive markets. The list above receiving the updates refer to the models meant for the Asia Pacific region only.

Manual Updates Feasible

If you have received the notification of the above updates on your mobile handsets you can go on using and enjoying the improved performance of your phones. If you are yet to receive the update you can do it manually as well. Unlike the other phones where you go to the phone’s Settings, Huawei and Honor brand phones come with an app HiCare. You need to open this app and log in. The app may do an automatic check once it reads your mobile number and the OTP sent from the app. Once in, you have to follow the path:

Country/region > Agree to the User Agreement and Privacy Notice > Update > Request update > Apply > Checking for new system update > Download and install.

It might appear a lengthy one but the whole thing happens quickly and you are good to go.
