The best virtual reality headset, HTC Vive just got a huge price cut, and it is now available for $599.
The move made by HTC is not surprising at all. It comes just a month after Facebook announced it was permanently cutting the price of Oculus Rift VR to $499. This headset currently retails for $399 as the part of the summer sale, so if you have been planning to buy it, now is a perfect time. After the summer sale is over, Oculus Rift will be available for $499.
When it comes to HTC Vive, the goal of the Taiwanese company is to make the consumers around the world interested in buying it. The best way to do so is by lowering the price and making it more affordable in order to be sold on a larger scale.
“Starting today (8/21), we are reducing the price of Vive by $200. The high-end, PC-based consumer Vive that is in market today, and will be for the foreseeable future, will now be available for $599.”, HTC’s Matthew Gepp said in the blog post.
Those who purchase the HTC Vive will also get a free trial to Viveport Subscription where users can find a great selection of virtual reality games.
“All Vive purchases come with a free trial to Viveport Subscription, where consumers can choose up to 5 titles per month to experience, and copies of some of the most popular pieces of VR in Google’s Tilt Brush, EverestVR, and Richie’s Plank Experience.”
“We know price is just one component of a purchase decision, but when you line up all that Vive offers, we’re building a complete VR ecosystem that customers can rely on today and for years to come.”, reads the blog.
The price cut is a great news for all those who have been planning to buy HTC Vive. This headset is in retail for more than a year, and until today it was available for $799. You can get it now for $599.
