HTC One M9+ is Official: Higher Screen and Fingerprint Sensor

HTC One M9 had its official launch just before MWC 2015. The phone just went available for purchase, and the Taiwanese have decided to launch another version: the HTC One M9+.

HTC failed to keep details about HTC One M9 + behind the locked doors, so rumors about this terminal began to surface even before the official launch of the M9 model. Now, HTC One M9+ was presented to the Chinese public and we can now see that many of the rumors were real.

Firstly, we can note that HTC One M9+ is much larger than the original one. It has a 5.2-inch diagonal display, but the resolution is higher, QHD, ie 2560 × 1440. The resolution and the diagonal ratio are placing HTC One M9+ on 2nd place among the smartphones with the largest number of pixels per inch.

Under this screen lies a Mediatek processor with eight cores clocked at 2,2Ghz. Although on paper, the difference between the Snapdragon 810 processor (on HTC One M9) and the Mediatek does not seem significant, but Snapdragon’s performance is superior. The only advantage for the Mediatek SOC would be not getting heated as much. It also features 3 GB RAM and 32GB of storage space.

Unfortunately, the battery might not be sufficient for the above configuration. The battery has only 2840 mAh and the QHD screen, as seen in the case of LG G3, is a major consumer of energy. Another notable difference between HTC One M9 and HTC One M9+ is the camera. The front is all 4MP (Ultrapixel) and the main has 20 MP. There is also a secondary camera, as seen on the HTC One M8 model.

The Taiwanese have implemented a fingerprint scanner too, but unlike HTC One Max, where the sensor was placed on the back, but on HTC One M9 +, it is integrated inside the home button.

It is not yet known if the phone will arrive in all stores around the world, given it has been released in China and in a statement sent to Engadget, HTC said that the M9+ is “not currently planned to be released in North America or Europe, where we believe that our flagship HTC One M9 is the best choice.”

HTC didn’t reveal a launch date or price for the M9+. The HTC One M9 will reach consumers this Friday. That’s the same date Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones go on sale.
