We live in a hyper-connected world and we are increasingly becoming dependent on the digital. While the quality of life is increased to some extent, we are using less and less cognitive functions, which is not as good for our brains.

Max Lugavere from Yahoo! Health had a conversation with Mattias Ribbing, expert in everything related to human memory. The interview can be watched in full on Yahoo! Health page. Ribbing has revealed a simple trick, which apparently is very useful for improving our retention capacity. Its advice is not to try to learn everything at once, but to start with a subject that interests us the most. The easiest way, he says, is to use the “image technique”. This technique involves associating a name with a picture. The brain will create a link between that name and the image with which it was associated.
The same trick can also be used when reading a book, imagining what you read while going through the lines. By viewing, memorizing the rows and going through them, the mind is trained to have a better memory. Proper nutrition is also a very important factor.
Foods rich in Omega-3 are extremely beneficial for the cognitive functions. Among the foods that are great for improving our memory, we count black chocolate, nuts and seeds, vegetables, fruits, avocado, salmon or other fatty fish, cruciferous vegetables, cereals such as cauliflower, broccoli or cabbage.
